[Plugin: WordPress Backup to Dropbox] Pegs CPU at 100%

I thought this might be a good option for my blog. Unfortunately, CPU utilization pegged at 100% and it stayed on backing up the SQL database for over 2 hours until I stopped it manually. My site was unresponsive during this time. I was able to use the admin panel to stop it – but it took a while.

I’m using the latest Bitnami instance on AWS – so I used the AWS monitoring to diagnose the problem. CPU usage is the issue.

It did start creating a backup in the backup directory. It didn’t show any errors in the admin panel, but as it is – I can’t use it.

    Gday mate,

This is the first I have heard of an issue like this. The backup PHP code is not doing anything other then Database reads and Disk IO which does not need that much CPU. I have tested it on low CPU virtual machines and have had now issues.

Do you have wp-cron hooked up to your unix cron? Or are you using the standard WordPress quasi cron?

    Cheers,
    MIkey

No cron at all – this was a manual backup and since this was posted I used backupwordpress – and it worked just fine. I tried it because I was concerned there were permission errors – but it doesn’t appear to be the case.
