    Question how do I get out of safe mode?

    Just contact your host and ask them to turn it off.

    I’m getting this problem as well trying to auto update to WP 2.6. I checked via phpinfo and safe mode is turned off on my server. Weird.

    I also checked my php5.ini file and have safe_mode = Off there.

    Any ideas?
