[Resolved] [Plugin: Widgets on Pages] Problems with Figero theme

  • Hello Todd,

    I’d like to thank you for your contribution to the community. It means a lot to me – and the others around here. First class.

    I have a small issue with the “free” Figero theme. To test, I created a WoP sidebar name of “homepage” and used a Text widget to prove the plugin worked on a random page here:

    I wish to use a random text generator on the homepage but since testing with just the Text widget doesn’t work, I thought I’d bail out and raise a ticket with you.

    I am expecting your answer to be, “unpick the PHP and add the code there instead”.

    However, I’ll see what you recommend.

    Kind regards, Callum (Birmingham, England).

    This is a strange one Callum, the Widget on Pages “widget area” is being diasplayed but there isn’t any widgets showing.

    Are you sure you have the widget in the right sidebar in the admin?

    I’ll see if I can get this set up in my dev environment to see if I can reproduce the issue.

    Hi Todd,

    Thanks for checking this out.

    I did get your widget on pages working for all pages other than the main Home Page (I wonder if I have already disabled your plugin, I better check).

    I contacted InkThemes and they said that embedded code in their “special theme boxes” (for the home page) won’t work on the Lite version however I have easily got Adsense working and simple HTML works too. I’m not sure if they know what they’re on about.

    I’m pretty sure this is a genuinely a theme issue – but I suppose you ought to know about it.

    I will do some more investigation and get back to you since I’m doing so much development on this, I forget where I was 🙂

    Hang on 🙂

    Apologies Todd, I had deleted the widget!

    It’s working again here:

    This is where it’s broken: I’ve put it on the home page just for a couple of hours so you can see it. Check out the section that says, “Readers Pics”.

    This isn’t your issue, I’m sure – but you may be able to spot a work-around?

    OK Callum… thanks for the update… I’ll hold tight till you have more info.

    (FInally Todd, can you tell me why the text from my installed widget tabs the txt in a little bit on the page?

    Ah right… looks like the shortcode is not being parsed but treated as just plain text. This could be to do with their “theme boxes”.. have you been adble to any PHP to these or is it just HTML and plain text you’ve used?

    I’ve not tried any PHP but plain HTML and Plain text works. Is there a test you’d like me to do?

    (pondering my thoughts)

    Javascript works because Adsense is flowing in.

    Could you just try the following?

    <?php echo "Here is some text";?>

    I’m not sure this will work (it probably shouldn’t do as it’s a security risk… but if it does we may have some light at the end of the tunnel.

    You’re right. It didn’t 🙂

    I wonder if we can use Javascript?

    Ah that’s a shame… but encouraging from the security point of view.

    I think the correct course of an action would be to ask the theme dev’s if they could allow shortcodes in these theme boxes.

    If I come up with anything as a work-around I’ll let you know.

    OK, I will write to InkThemes since I already have a ticket open.

    In the meantime, be aware that this works: <script> document.write(“<p>THIS IS A TEST</p>”);</script>

    However, sending text to the browser is different to having Worpdress interpreting shortcodes I guess.

    Hello. I am using this template and I just got this random code on the front of my site and I can’t figure out how it got there and how to get rid of it. I uninstalled several plugins and it’s still there. can you take a look and advise? my site is http://www.averion.com. thanks

    Hello Maverion. You are talking about the text, “/about-me/” on top left of the home page?

    Looking at the code, it shows this:

    <meta name="generator" content="WordPress 3.5.1" />
    <link rel='canonical' href='http://averion.com/' />
    <link rel="prefetch prerender" href="/about-me/">

    On my toy site with the same theme for Nordhavndreamers.com, my theme is not putting this in:

    <link rel="prefetch prerender" href="/about-me/">

    Or anything like it. Does that give you a clue?

    By any chance, are you using this plugin?
