  • I’m missing the point here …..

why would you use the CDN option in W3 Total Cache with the local server/FTP option.

how is it any speed gain that the files are served from the subdomain that I have setup for CDN instead of directly via WordPress . The files are on the same server (shared hosting). So why does it matter where the files are coming from in that case ?

(I *must* be missing the point here, please could someone elaborate on the subject, thanks in advance)……

  • I’m not sure but it could be that the browser will see that the content is on a separate domain and download the file concurrently with the files on the main domain.

There are more reasons than the following, but these are the two that matter most:

    1. Pipelining and therefore progressive render is improved by using the additional hostname.
    2. Apache performs better (and can be optimized to) deliver static objects only.

    Thanks Frederick for your reply.

(and thanks for visiting us in Denmark a couple of days ago – we were very happy to have you with us !)…

btw.: You asked for real life examples – I’m running Gravity Forms on this site:

    http://tinyurl.com/y4yz77p

Can I just activate w3-total-cache without concern for the order form to work properly ?. Should I not activate page cache or should I just go 100% “onboard” with w3tc (or you should I be careful about something else ? regarding using gravity forms and having the w3tc activated ?)….

Thanks again for your visit to Denmark.

You’re welcome. You can try disk enhanced, then test your forms to see if there is any issue, there probably will be and so add /?page_id=12 to “never cache the following pages” field on the page cache settings tab.

    Hi frederick,

I’m trying to use the CDN feature with a buddypress installation using s3 amazon (bp 1.2.5 and wp 3.0) and I cannot get it to make a bucket… it simply tells me to check my credentials “Error: Unable to list buckets (check your credentials).”

I’ve checked the key/secret key numerous times and have even created a new key and tried it… same result…

I’m using the development version of the plugin.

Is the time + timezone of your server correct? cURL PHP module is installed?

Curl is installed… it is quite possible the time zone is incorrect as I remember I had to change it to central standard time to account for an issue with Buddypress listing wrong times on private messages…. let me check and see….

Ok changed back to NYC time… same error. Error/check credentials…

You changed PHP to correct timezone or WordPress to correct timezone?

Hi Frederick, sorry a couple days out on this… Ok, I changed the server timezone and it was indeed incorrect. When I corrected it, I WAS able to create buckets directly from the PLUGIN (BTW now using your latest Dev. plugin as of today). However, The Test upload does not work… just sits there… no error

Also, I’m not able to upload any of the files via the plugin interface either… after starting the upload it just counts time and 0 progress.

    I’m using Buddpress 1.2.5 and WP 3.0.

Please submit a bug submission form from the support tab of the plugin.

    Ok I sent you…

btw, the support tab does not send with IE8 dropdown appears -nothing happens on selection -works fine in Chrome, etc…

Can you clear your browser cache and try again?

The dropdown? Nope cleared cache, cleared web-cache..re-opened still doesn’t drop down in ie8…

Have you come up with any ideas on the other item I sent you the e-mails about (CDN and BP?)…

I don’t have your real name, can you bump the email thread we have open please?
