There are some serious issues running on Hostgator when the db cache and object cache are turned on and WP 3.3 is installed. Pretty much bringing servers to their knees and forcing them to shut down accounts with this configuration.

I am facing similar issues on WP 3.3. I am using a VPS on knownhost.

The RAM usage is very very high

APC and others modules use the RAM to store the cached objects hence it requires RAM. If you can't use lots of RAM then you should try Disc cache instead.
If you think that amount of RAM is totally not what it should be file a support request on the Support page in the plugin.

Disk caching for object and database cache is not recommended blindly, it's not surprising that this is the outcome and even though the option is available it's not always appropriate. W3TC is a framework that allows you to address issues for each case, but this option is disabled by default for the same reason.
