• Hi,

I’ve been using the plugin for a while now, however I’m suspicious of the accuracy of the Who’s Been Online page. It doesn’t seem to be recording all the visitors correctly. For example now the new day has just started, it’s showing 4 visits (including bots), when my actual stats are showing 14 visitors. The discrepancy is larger on all previous days which have ended with a lot more visitors.

Is there any reason this could be happening?

    Thanks.

  • I have no idea how your stats program works, this is how this one counts a visitor.

There are timer settings for active and inactive visitors, these timers determine when a visitor is counted. and determine if they came back for another visit or not.

    Active time (minutes):
Minutes that a visitor is considered “active”. Default is 5 minutes.

    Inactive time (minutes):
Minutes until an inactive visitor is removed from display. Default is 15 minutes. Later on if they come back they are a new visitor again.

I’m using WordPress.com Stats, Google Analytics and StatCounter, all of which are counting more visitors (not hits) than Who’s Online. I can only guess that some visitors are visiting more than once in 5 minutes, but somehow I don’t think that would count as a second visit in the other stat services.

    Hi Mike,

I recently disabled HyperCache, and Who’s Online now appears to display more visits. Could this be what was preventing Who’s Online from accurately recording some visits?

I have not previously thought of it, but yes, it could cause that.

    Mike
