    Hi there Maeve

Just saw your post – so here are some more details:
    I have WordPress Version 3.5.1
    Your plugin version 2.1
    website is http://www.johnceestannard.co.uk

After I updated the display settings I did go into manage songs and listed two more songs – all three now have 0.99p as the cost price but this is just for test purposes for now.

The shortcode is on the “about the album” page and I was having trouble getting the player to work through IE8 but it worked fine in Safari.

Hope this helps – please let me know if there is anything else you need from me – but I’m really new to WordPress and have no web design/code skills.

Thanks for all your help with this – I should also say that when the player worked it looked absolutely fabulous.

    Cheers

Hi Angie, happy to help 🙂

I went to http://www.johnceestannard.co.uk/about-the-album/ but can’t see the player. I’m guessing you took it down temporarily as this is a live site?

Unfortunately there’s not a lot I can do help you if I can’t see the player and problem in action… if you’d still like to use this plugin are you able to pop it back up so I can take a look?

    Thanks,
    Maeve

    Hi there Maeve

So glad that you’re happy to me help if you can – I really do appreciate it.

So here’s the thing, I hadn’t deactivated the plugin when you looked at the website.

Yesterday I had a message in my dashboard to update the Responsive theme and another plugin – neither of which I was using but I did so anyway.

Today I deleted the Responsive theme as I am using Arras. Then I deactivated all 6 plugins that were active including the audio player and reactivated them one by one. As I reactivated each of the plugins, I checked the live website each time to see if the audio player was visible on the webpage but it’s still not there.

    What else should I do?

    Cheers

    Hi Angie,

I think maybe you forgot to add the shortcode [hmp_player] to your page/post to show the player…

    Hi there Maeve

I’ll check but as I removed your plugin I could see the shortcode on the live visual website page in the main body of the text – although I did not look under the html tab – so I think that it must have still been there – but I will have another look to make sure.

Under view are you able to see my source code if you go to the website? I had a look yesterday and I could loads of code for your audio player – so I thought it was there but just not visible on the page.

Also is VLC media OK to convert the mp3 file to an ogg. file?

Do you know of any known conflicts with any other plugins or themes when used with the audio player plugin?

Thanks again for coming back to me – I know that my questions must seem rather basic to you – so thank you for your patience and help.

    Cheers

    Hi Angie,

Ok checked again and yes nothing wrong with how you’ve put in the shortcode because it is generating the code for the player….

Also I can now see the issue… you have not uploaded a proper ogg file – you can see the code is pointing to the same mp3 file in the ogg fields… you actually need to convert the mp3 to an ogg using a converter software or online converter (VLC is a media player not a converter). I use Goldwave, but there are many other free audio converters available online.

Give that a try and let me know if that solves your vanishing player problem. 🙂

    Hi there Maeve

I think that I have now uploaded the proper ogg files for all three tracks and I think that you will be able to see this now too.

It looks OK to me – but hey what do I know! I used Audacity as we already had it and it seemed to work fine – again the shortcode seems to be there too.

Unfortunately the plugin still seems to have vanished – is it possible that there there is a jquery issue in the Arras theme? I’m hoping not as I would have no idea how to test or fix that.

I do hope that you will be able to help me out still to solve this mystery because your plugin really did look fabulous and so professional on the website.

    Cheers

    Hi Angie,

To check for conflict in your theme switch to the default twentyeleven theme. If the plugin works, then yes it was a theme conflict…. if not, then it’s something to do with how you’ve implemented it.

It sounds like you’re struggling a bit with getting this implemented and honestly it’s probably something really simple like a funny symbol or character in a field or wrong file path or just something really simple that’s unfortunately hard to spot! I’d be happy to take a closer look if you’d like to email me privately with some temporary admin login details – info@enigmaweb.com.au

    Hi there Maeve

Thank you for coming back to me again so promptly. I checked whether there could be a conflict in my theme by switching to Twenty Eleven as you suggested and the plugin still did not work.

So it may well be something to do with how I’ve implemented the plugin which as you say might be really easy to spot – but then you know what you’re looking for – and I have not a clue!

It is really so kind of you to take the time to take a closer look for me and I will email you soon with some temporary login details.

I really appreciate you helping me out – the support you have given me is spectacular – thanks again for your patience and understanding.

    Cheers

Just posting result back here for anyone who stumbles across this thread with similar problem:

I took a look at this site and found the problem was that there were some odd characters/symbols in both the playlist description text, and in one of the song titles. At the moment the player doesn’t cope too well with things like apostrophes, inverted commas, slashes, & – stuff like that. So I removed all these from all fields and that got the player showing up. It is a limitation in the plugin which I am hoping to fix up in next major release.

Site is working now at http://www.johnceestannard.co.uk/about-the-album/
