 * i had to update to WordPress 4.4.2 manually because it wouldn’t update nor would
   my plugins…
 * thinking i needed to update wp..so i did the update manually…
 * i then tried to perform my plugin updates and received this message:
 * The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts,
   so please be patient.
 * Enabling Maintenance mode…
 * Updating Plugin All In One SEO Pack (1/1)
    Downloading update from [https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/all-in-one-seo-pack.2.3.3.2.zip…](https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/all-in-one-seo-pack.2.3.3.2.zip…)
An error occurred while updating All In One SEO Pack: Download failed. Failed
to write request to temporary file. Disabling Maintenance mode…
 * All updates have been completed.
 * But the updates were not completed.
 * so i tried updating akismet thru ftp and even then the plugin doesn’t show it
   is updated.
 * I was having this same issue with my themes as well but was able to update that
   thru ftp maunually.
 * so something is happening with the updates..
 * any fixes for a guy that isn’t code savy?

 * You may be having a permissions issue that is covered up by something else. I
was having some weird issues updating plugins on a site I manage a few days ago…
finally after hours of digging and trying various fixes we did the following
   and it solved our issues.
 * 1) On the updates screen in WP-Admin click the “Re-install” option.
    2) Try to
   update your plugins again.
 * Hopefully this will help. If not, let us know and we will try to help further.

 * Hi, SchaferDesign, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.
 * There’s a lot you don’t tell us, so it’s a little hard to say much definitively.
First, could you please provide a link to your site? Second, are you on a virtual/
   dedicated server or shared hosting?
 * Sometimes hosts have a limit regarding the size/number of files that can be in
your /tmp directory. Perhaps try clearing that out & see if it resolves the difficulty.
Your hosting provider can tell you where that particular folder is, as well as
whether such limits exist, if you’re unsure.
 * Please let us know if that was helpful, &, if not, please answer the above questions
so we can provide additional assistance.

 * oh, sorry the site url is [http://re831.com](http://re831.com).
    it is on Godaddy’s
server not sure if it is virtual/dedicated server or shared..My Guess is shared.
   the tmp file is empty!
 * any other ideas? thanks for your help.

 * Hi, schaferdesign. In a case like this, 1 of the first things we ask folks to
do is revert to a fefault theme like twentysixteen & see if the update is successful.
If not, then the next thing we generally advise is to deactivate most plugins,
except for ones that are known to work well w/WordPress, like Akismet, for example,
which is written by core WordPress developers, & see if the problem persists.
If an update was successful, then we tend to start reactivating plugins 1 by
1, trying the process each time, until the problem returns. You might also wish
to check w/Godaddy to ensure that the /tmp file has proper permissions, but this
sounds like a shared hosting environment, where that kind of problem doesn’t
generally occur. The fact it appears you’re able to use FTP to update also suggests
that permissions problems are pretty unlikely.
 * You do appear to have a child theme as well as a fair number of plugins that
could be conflicting, so the course outlined above might prove helpful.

 * Ok, when i switched to twenty thirteen theme i was able to update all my out
of date plugins.. so i guess this means it is something with my theme? thanks
   for your help.

 * Yes, SchaferDesign, it would appear so, & it was my initial suspicion once assured
that the temp folder was empty. I’m really sorry, as I realize how frustrating
that must be. Perhaps updating the theme might help? Also, if the parent theme
was purchased, you may wish to consider lodging a support request w/the theme
author/vendor for additional assistance. The forum volunteers here are not really
equipped to support commercial purchases, because more than likely, we don’t
have access to the theme/plugin in question.
 * If you feel your problem has been resolved, could you please be so kind as to
mark the topic as such so that the forum volunteers understand your problem has
been solved & can feel free to help others who need it? Thank you.
