I recently tried to update WP Mail SMTP (not pro) and the plugin gave an “Error 500” and put my site in permanent maintenance mode that locked me out even on the admin side. I had to go to godaddy and reset the site to the previous functional day, losing a lot of work that had been done that day. So, the site is currently restored to the previous version of the plugin, but obviously we would like to keep our plugins updated, without crashing our site and losing work. Please advise what to do.

Note: this was the only plugin that was updated.

  • Hi @klewisrfa,

I’m sorry for the trouble. Please setup error logs and then activate the plugin. This will log any errors that are creating the error 500. Please share the full errors here. Alternatively, your hosting support should be able to see server logs and have more insights on the error.

    Thank you!

Hi @klewisrfa – We haven’t heard from you in about a week, so I’m going to go ahead and mark this ticket resolved. If you still have questions, though, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.
