Support » Plugin: Twit Connect » [Plugin: Twit Connect] User changed his username on Twitter

  • I am experiencing a strange problem. A user of my site (BuddyPress) have an account whose user name is “auto_standingtwitter.” One day the options of “mentions” and “private messages” stopped working.

In a first analysis, I thought the problem was the “_”. Then I realized that it originally worked.

Analyzing the problem, I found the user changes his account name on Twitter. This caused something odd about BuddyPress:
    – The user profile is kept the old name.
    – But if I go into the WordPress settings (user section) the new name appears.

I guess that caused the error. My question is if you have any suggestions to solve this case where a user changes his name on Twitter.

Any additional information please ask me.

    Thank you. Best regards!

That is strange. I haven’t checked out the profiles for BuddyPress lately, but I wonder if it’s tracking the username outside of the standard WP tables.

Hello Swhitley. Thank you very much for answering 🙂

Are there any additional information that can give you to find the cause of the problem? Any help is welcome. I am available to help with whatever it takes!

I think I found the problem and solution.

The cause is that a user changes their nickname on

The consequence is that do not work: private messages and tagging (mentions).

The diagnosis is that they are distinct: nicename and login.

The way to found it is:

    SELECT *
    FROM wp_users
    User_login WHERE <> user_nicename

The workaround is to update the nicename to make it equal to login.

Swhitley: I would like your opinion on this approach to solution. Am I doing the right thing?
