  • I just installed tubepress myself and I’m getting the same error message:
“YouTube determined that the request did not contain proper authentication.”

    Any ideas?

Creating a new key worked for me:
    https://code.google.com/apis/youtube/dashboard

That’s funny, seeing that @sunny seems to have fixed it, I decided I’d try re-activating the plugin. I can’t make a new developer key unless I make a whole new application, so I just re-copied and re-pasted the same developer key again (which shouldn’t have changed anything really), and now everything is working.
I’m not quite sure what was going on here, but hurray it’s all working now!
Now I just have to figure out lightbox / shadowbox integration…

Try enabling TubePress’s API cache from WP Admin > Settings > TubePress > Cache. That should pretty much eliminate the authentication error from YouTube.

@lwangaman – is shadowbox not working for you?

    hello everyone,

I have a problem with my tubepress plugin since few days.

    Cache is enabling but:

@zepolo Do you have a link to your site that you could share?

Settings >> TubePress >> Cache >> Enable Api Cache selected

Settings >> TubePress >> Advanced >> Enable debugging unselected

@k2eric I got shadowbox working (even though it’s taking over lightbox, if I want to use lightbox for my photo galleries and shadowbox for my video galleries like tubepress, shadowbox still opens up together with lightbox for my photo galleries… but that’s another question…)

I am however having difficulty getting the plugin to work at all, I’m getting thumbnails that don’t respond when you click on them. If I use the default player at the top of the gallery, it just turn whitish when I click on the thumbnails, but other than that nothing happens…

You can find lots of troubleshooting steps for “unclickable” thumbnails here.

I too am getting this issue on my wordpress site, it works sometimes and fails randomly other times. Is there a definitive fix for this issue yet?. Hope you can help..

@aimeemackenzie, Have you enabled the TubePress API cache from WP Admin > Settings > TubePress > Cache ? That will almost certainly “smooth out” this type of error to the point where it never surfaces.

Feel free to send along a link to your site and I’ll be glad to take a first-hand look. Thanks.

    Hey @k2eric,

I’ve got Enable API Cache ticked
    Cache directory is blank
    Cache Expiration is 3600
    Cache cleaning factor is 20

    Hi Aimée,

I’ve confirmed that TubePress’s cache is functioning – so in theory you shouldn’t see that error anymore. If you do, just let us know.

    Two other recommendations:

    1. Turn your cache cleaning factor down to 5 or so and turn the expiration way up to at least a day (86400 seconds) if not more. You could even set it to a few days, especially if your video feed doesn’t change too often
    2. Install a WordPress caching plugin like W3TC or WP Super Cache.

Good luck and let us know if the problem pops up again. Thanks.

    Hello,

I have a problem with my tubepress plugin. YouTube determined that the request did not contain proper authentication

I’ve done all this and nothing has worked:
    Enable Api Cache:selected
    Enable debugging:unselected
    Created a new api key
I turn the cache clearing factor down to 5 and the expiration way up to 86400 seconds.
    I have installed wp supercache

    the url is tridudas.com

    Thanks in advanced.

    Hi oquiroga,

Could you re-enable debugging for me at WP Admin > Settings > TubePress > Advanced? That will help me get a better look as to what’s going on under the hood.

It sounds like you’re doing everything right, so we may have to open a bug report with YouTube.

    Thanks!
