I haven’t really thought about that. Can you give a bit more info on how you would use a function like that? Is it for multiple parallel/alternate routes or for different trips with time at home between?

I was thinking more along these lines:
I just came back from a 6 week trip through India and besides pictures and stories I’d like to post an itinerary/map too.
2 weeks later I went on a 3 week safari where I want to do the same…
I was looking for a plugin to be able to display different routes, not necessarily connected.
I see how that could be pretty useful, especially since the maps are inserted by shortcodes – that kind of encourages multiple maps.
I will have to think a little about how the administration should be handled, but I will probably implement multiple maps sometime during the next month.

no rush, thanks for considering…
The new version 1.3 includes a way to show multiple trips in different maps using shortcode attributes. It’s not ideal if you have a lot of trips (5+), but it keeps the options page simple for most users. Take a look at the installation page for instructions.

thanks and sorry for not getting back at you but I started using this script here: http://www.justin-klein.com/projects/projectjkmlmap that implements Google Earth KML files. Its not a plugin and needs quite a bit f fiddling but looks like what I was looking for 🙂
