    Perhaps I don’t understand but, passwords are encrypted in the DB.

    Yes, but each and every time a user physically logs in they’re exposing their password, especially over public WiFi and everything between them and their ISP/numerous other networks/servers.

    Obviously, https is the best solution. However, SSL certs aren’t available to everyone, either technically or financially.

    You can see other plugins doing this, for example:

    Frankly, TML is one of the best/most useful WP plugins of all time, definitely top 5 for me. This would be a huge enhancement. Just something to consider.
