Support » Plugin: The Events Calendar » [Plugin: The Events Calendar] Can't Set The Gridview Page Title on Modern Tribe Events Calendar

  • Resolved bentguit

    Hello,
I am setting up the Modern Tribe Events Calendar (2.0.9) on a custom theme and everything is going great except for one thing… On the calendar view the page title is being set as the title of the newest event added. Seems like the tags on line 18 of gridview.php would set this (<title><?php wp_title(); ?></title>) but I’ve changed it there and it doesn’t seem to work. Is the page title set in the theme? I was thinking it might work if I made a different theme just for this page and set a static title there, but it seems like there should be an easier way.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks for your help!

Hello bentguit. Thanks for reaching out, and for your use of The Events Calendar. We have indeed had a few reports of this issue where the first event title becomes the calendar name. It doesn’t happen across the board but this thread should be of value in diagnosing/resolving it: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-the-events-calendar-events-page-title?replies=22. Let me know if not, though, and I can look into this further for you.

Oh man, I searched before posting but I guess I missed this. I’ve got it working now! Thanks roblagatta!

I’ve always had this issue with EC (and the Pro version) – and it is still present in the latest version (2.0.9).

The HTML document title (the string in the <title> tag) always takes the next available event title instead of copying the standard “Upcoming Events” text, when viewing the Upcoming or Calendar views. It seems like this is a bug – could anyone else comment?

I found the filter to alter the PAGE title, but as of yet not one to hook into the <title> string.

    Thanks!

Update: I have found the issue – it’s due to the parent theme (Thematic) hooking wp_title() with the same priority at EC.

Glad to hear you got this figured out, Sith Lord Goz. Thanks for confirming as much and sorry for the fact you had to do so yourself (without our assistance). If you need anything else in the future, please let us know…and thanks again for using The Events Calendar.

I’m having this issue! Can somebody please offer me some insight, I’m going nuts trying to remedy this! I’m using the non-pro version of this plug.

I’m having the issue, upon creating events, it’s naming the main “Event Calendar” page, as the most recent event post.

My theme is called “Target” I’m using the free version.

If anybody can offer me some aid, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

    Chris Coffin.

Hey there Chris. Thanks for the note here. Might this thread from the PRO forums (http://tri.be/support/forums/topic/calendar-page-title-shows-title-of-an-event-continued/) be of value to you? I’d suggest trying the various solutions therein and let me know from there if you’re still having issues. Cheers.

Perhaps I’m missing something here.. But it appears to me that this thread / the answer was somewhat theme-specific. And largely revolved around the guys own code. Perhaps there’s something a little more universal available ?

    (@roblagatta)

Ah, there was more value in one of the threads that is linked to therein which is more universal: http://tri.be/support/forums/topic/calendar-page-title-shows-title-of-an-event-and-wont-change/#post-19270. (Generally any links within a thread are worth checking out as well, but let me know if this too isn’t of value).

Thanks for the reply once more, it’s greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately though, I’m still not having much luck with the provided post. I tried following the provided instructions, but I’m not really getting the desired results. It also kind of seems like the solution provided wasn’t even used in the end, the gent who asked the original question, found a workaround that works for HIS theme, and not necessarily others. Also, the solution doesn’t seem very clear to me, I’ve re-read it multiple times, but it doesn’t make much sense to me. I think i’m missing something…

    On a side-note, what’s grid-view ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Coffin

    Hello Rob ?

Are you still with me, bud ?

I’m still having issues with the same problem. I just want the Calendar to say “Events Calendar’ or something to that effect, instead of just having the title coming from the most recent post.

I’ve looked through the provided links to threads, and they don’t really have anything to offer me, as it’s all highly specific to their own code / themes.

This plugin is very nice, and works seemingly well. But this is a huge issue, and it’s taking me far too long to solve it. I’d appreciate if you could actually offer me some help, instead of redirecting me to other threads that are hardly of value to me. I’ve looked extensively for a solution, but can’t find it anywhere else on your support forums.

Again, I appreciate the replies thus far, but can I actually get an answer to MY question, instead of other people’s subjective questions.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sincerely,

    Chris Coffin

Hey Chris. Thanks for the follow-up; I am indeed still here, but unfortunately given our limited support bandwidth we only have the opportunity to check in on this forum about 1x a week. We realize that there are pain points for certain users but when it comes to the dot-org forum – which we’re essentially providing support on for free – our resources need to be limited to identifying bugs with the core plugin. We certainly try to help users out in situations that are specific to their installs (such as this one), but don’t have the bandwidth to do so on a daily basis or do much beyond providing links that can point someone in the right direction. If folks want deeper or more frequent support responses we encourage them to buy a PRO license and bring the discussion to the forums at tri.be.

Providing a specific answer to “your” question is difficult, since as I mentioned above, it appears specific to your install and I see no record of similar issues beyond those I’ve shared. I also am unable to recreate it myself on a default Twenty Twelve theme with no other plugins active…there is likely something at play on your system that is causing this.

There is a method for manually overriding the calendar title, which you’re welcome to try and is detailed here: http://tri.be/renaming-the-calendar-to-something-other-than-calendar-of-events/. Beyond that I’m unfortunately sort of at a loss and might suggest reaching out to the theme dev, to see if they can identify something we’re doing wrong with the plugin code here. (If we are we’ll of course recitfy that in an upcoming release).

Let me know if this helps, and thanks again for your support/patience so far.

I have two WP sites running on the same multi-domain server. Each is running the Twenty Ten theme ‘straight out of the box’; each has V2.0.10 of the Event Calendar installed. The calendar on the site with Twenty Ten theme version 1.2 works and looks beautiful; the theme version 1.5 works fine but it appears that the styling of the calendar and list displays as well as links have all got lost?

    http://pechorticultural.org/?post_type=tribe_events&eventDisplay=month
    theme V1.5

    http://katebowers.ca/blog/?post_type=tribe_events&eventDisplay=month
    theme V1.2

    Suggestions?

Hey halfadot. Thanks for the note here; is it possible that these sites are both running separate events templates? That’s what it looks like to me…you can check by logging into the backend and going to Events -> Settings and finding the Template tab. Make sure that they are both consistent there.

If these DO happen to be running the same template and this problem is still an issue, let me know so we can troubleshoot as needed. Thanks for your patience so far.

Thanks for checking, Rob. Both sites are now running the ‘one column, no sidebar’ template option. The displayed page differences are obvious. Oddly, the dashboard look for settings for the plugin looks different in each case – almost as if there’s a CSS file that’s not getting engaged.
