[resolved] 2.0.9 Upgrade Killed Event Directory Template (4 posts)

I upgraded to the new versions of EC and ECP 2.0.9 and now my Event directory is defaulting to my theme's index.php template. So going to http://url.com/events/ and http://url.com/events/2012-10 and so forth does not apply either the EC default event template or calendar template. These URLs render upcoming events in the current month as if it were following standard Template Hierarchy. Single event views are unaffected.

    I have tried:

    • Switching the event directory slug in EC settings
    • Updating WP permalinks without changing settings
    • Running Debug Mode
    • Disabling custom EC theme files in my custom theme
    • Switching to WP Twenty Twelve theme
    • Reinstalling both EC and ECP from scratch
    • Searching both tri.be support (which is impossible to use) and WP support forums

I have not seen the standard calendar grid or upcoming events view since this update. For the sake of usability, I need to roll back until there is a proper fix for this. Where can I download 2.0.8 for EC and ECP?

    Thank you.

Hi there spacedragon. Thanks for the note here; let me start by saying that if you're a PRO user, you may want to consider posting your threads over at http://tri.be/support/forums. We hit that forum daily (as opposed to this one, which we do 1x a week) and can provide a deeper level of support there than we're able to here. Just something to consider for the future. I'd be curious on hearing more as to why you found tri.be support "impossible to use" - that obviously wasn't our intent on building it - since most users don't seem to have a problem with it and if there's something we can improve I'd like to know what, so I can relay it to the team.

I'm happy to provide you with the 2.0.8 builds, but I should note that these do not appear to be bugs with the plugin itself...I haven't seen other reports of this on my end and am unable to recreate this on my local environment, which makes me think something else is at play.

Is it possible the template you'd selected under Events -> Settings -> Template just needs to be reset? There was a bug in 2.0.9 where Event-specific were wiped upon updating, so if you'd selected a given template that would no longer be in effect and could be impacting the frontend view. Can you give that a go and let me know the end result?

    Hi roblagatta,
Thanks for the quick response. I have tried switching this several times, and the only change that happens is on the single event view. The two options I'm given in that drop down are "Default Events Template" and "Default Page Template."

But it got me thinking. I went through each one of my plugins and enabled/disabled until I found the culprit called "Sticky Custom Post Types" which I have been using because EC doesn't have sticky post support. I installed this when I upgraded EC. Which leads me to ask: when will we get support for sticky events?

As for the tribe Support Section, searching is always off the mark and documentation is spread across docs, forums, faq and tutorials. If there's a solution or a walkthrough, it's often not archived in the doc table of contents. Having used this product for over a year, that section is growing wildly. A wiki with reliable search seems better suited. That being said, I appreciate the simplicity of Account Central. Hope that helps.

    Many many thanks!

Thanks for the follow-up, spacedragon. I'm glad to hear you got this conflict figured out and for my part, I've added Sticky Custom Post Types to our list of known conflicting plugins. I've also gotten the discussion going on sticky events - that's a solid feature request and while we don't have any immediate plans for it (yours is the first mention I've seen here), it is now on the radar as we plot out future builds of the 3.0 release.

Good points on the support side of the site. A couple of those are actually bugs (the search, for example; it's meant to continue adding results as you scroll down the page but doesn't). Absolutely agree that as it's grown it's become increasingly unwieldy. We're looking at other solutions and it's likely a centralized wiki will be the answer. This won't be immediate but know it's in the works and we appreciate your patience and feedback until we get there.

Sounds like you're all sorted on this issue, so I'm going to mark it RESOLVED. Please let me know if you disagree. Otherwise thanks again for using The Events Calendar. If you'd be so kind as to give us a positive star rating and/or a WORKS vote here on the dot-org forum, we definitely would appreciate it.
