[Plugin: TDO Mini Forms] Can't change msgs.php?

I can’t seem to change any of the error message text in msgs.php, keep getting a sytax error every time, ( unexpected %) even though I change nothing but the message text. Seems weird, I’ve never gotten errors changing message text before. What could it be?
