Easy Updates Manager worked fine on our site for several years, but stopped working. The last update that was done automatically was for MailPoet 3 on Nov 6th 2021. I’m seeing one more weird thing in the log: a translation for Analytics Insights done manually by…. someone with only subscriber rights!?!
Manual updates do not start when I try from the plugin, only when I select them in the native WordPress Plugins menu.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @willemb2

When setting all updates to Manual that means the user will need to update their core/plugins/themes from within particular WordPress administration pages (e.g. WP Plugins page); I don’t think EUM has ever provided an interface where you can manually update things via the plugin. Regarding the automatic updates, it seems like there might be a conflict between EUM and some other plugin that you installed after Nov 6th; do you recall what plugin it might be?. As for the log, we are aware of the issue where EUM falsely records an entry for the log (in your case it’s a user with very limited access), and we are still working to implement a fix.

    Thanks

We installed Litespeed Cache on Nov 11th, but there is hardly ever a night without at least one plugin update. It is very unlikely that the were no updates between Nov 6th and Nov 11th.

Re-installing EUM did not solve the issue. It lists 6 updates currently, but it does not execute them. The log remains empty.

    Hi @willemb2

We’ve had a quick look at Litespeed Cache plugin, and we don’t see a problem in having both EUM and Litespeed plugins activated altogether. So, there might be something else preventing the updates from being downloaded and/or installed. Have you ever tried to do Force automatic updates from within the EUM plugin? you can find the tool under the Advanced tab; I wonder what it will be when you force the automatic updates. If one of your plugins currently has an available update, then doing the Force updates will run the automatic updater immediately, and normally you will have the plugin updated to its latest version.

    Thanks

When I click Force updates I see something like ‘Force update checks were initiated’ briefly, but nothing gets updated and nothing appears in the log.

    Hi @willemb2,

My apologies for the delay in coming back to you.

Could you please use the WordPress site health tool (wp-admin/site-health.php) and see if there’s a critical issue relating to background/auto updates in the Site Health Status section?. Typically, if there’s an issue with auto updating, you will get Your site may have problems auto-updating plugins and themes and/or Background updates are not working as expected messages listed in the site health status.

    Thanks,

    Hi @anthoniusalfred,

In the meantime I had learned that theme and plugin auto-update is part of the WP core since 5.5.

But after uninstalling EUM the column “Automtic Updates” does not appear.

Site health is reporting no issues, it even says at Passed-tests > Security: “Plugin and theme auto-updates appear to be configured correctly”

My guess is that our hosting provider is blocking it somehow. We will open a ticket there.

    Hi @willemb2,

Yes, that’s right. As of WP 5.5, if you navigate to the WP plugin screen there’s a new Automatic updates column, where you can enable/disable auto-updates for each plugin you have in your site. It’s odd that the column doesn’t appear after you uninstalled EUM. I think it’s worth contacting your hosting provider to see if they can shed any light regarding the issue.

    Thanks,
    Anthon
