[Plugin: Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin] Why did 3.5 send users to a spam link? (2 posts)

I was recently alerted by a user that he was being redirected to a linksynergy site, and when I investigated, I saw that 3.5 of this plugin was actually redirecting users to that site. Now I see that 3.6 is trying to undo the damage... can you explain how an anti-spam plugin can come to facilitate spam in this way?

The default value for the redirection link was an affiliate link (not spam). In my beta test, I was experimenting with sending spammers to an affiliate link, so that users could make money from the spammer traffic.

When I released the production code, I did not remove the beta code, and due to a bug, it became the default behavior. I quickly released the code to undo this mistake. I hope everyone updates soon so as to fix this.

I released the code without checking that the redirect was working correctly, and now I am paying for it.

I would not be surprised or offended if everyone stopped using the plugin.
