dear, I used smush to compress the images on my site and thus improve the upload speed. However, the plugin has NOT IMPROVED ANYTHING IN THE WEBSITE LOADING. On the contrary, it made the quality of the images worse and made it much worse. How do I undo the smush actions and recover my images to what they were before ????? I need to resolve this urgently !!!!

    Hello @lucilafreire

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble and sorry for keeping you waiting for response!

By default Smush is loseless compression so there shouldn’t be any decrease in image quality in terms of how image files a physically modified. Only “visually irrelevant” data is stripped off.

If you noticed image quality decrease, was it after running “Bulk Smush” option or after enabling “Lazy Load” option in Smush plugin?

If it’s “lazy load” then it would mean that lazy load was conflicting with theme or some other plugin resulting in lazy load simply loading images of wrong size (which then causes them to be scaled up in browser). That should be easily fixed by disabling Lazy Load and clearing cache on site (if there is any).

Even just disabling the plugin (and clearing cache if there is any) would fix that in such case.

I also tried to visit the page you provided link to but it doesn’t seem to be working currently. Is there any place I could see such “decrease quality” image on site? It might actually help say why the quality is lower and possibly also why Smush didn’t help with speed.

    Kind regards,
    Adam

Hello, unfortunately the same thing happened to me. Even after uninstalling the plugin, the images were not restored. To make matters worse, the plugin only provides the option to restore in the paid version. Absurd!

    Hi @jeremiasribeiro

The plugin on free version only compress the thumbnails, you can regenerate the images using this plugin any moment:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

The Pro option is to restore the Original image version which isn’t compressed on the free version.

In case the issue is for Lazy Load, I suggest checking the caches as my friend sent above.

If the problem persists, kindly create a new ticket and we can take a closer look.

    Best Regards
    Patrick Freitas
