[resolved] New version 1.8.1 takes the front end of my websites down!!! (22 posts)

Upon updating to version 1.8.1 today on two of my installations, they display a server error when trying to access them with the following message:

    Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.areasoflife.com/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

Disabling the plugin gets them back online.

The backend is not effected at all as far as I can tell.

Exactly as cscottb. I don't know what you've done with this update, but it also took my site down. I tried to get a key and that's a joke too. I had to disable it. Please get this fixed
    Thanks

What license key? Does it have one?I didn't see anything and since I can't log into my site, I can't disable this plugin. Can anyone help? I'm not very good at it.

You will need to use FTP to delete the plugin, before you can reinstall it. If you need help go to http://www.toddlahman.com/shop/spam-free-wordpress/, and create a license key, then use the forum http://www.toddlahman.com/forums/forum/spam-free-wordpress/, so I can assist you.

verdedeparis can you get to your Dashboard? If you can disable the plugin until you get your key. Look here for the license key.

I also had the same issue, in panic mode i completely deleted the plugin through my hosting site file manager just to get my site up and running. Then I came here to report it and saw the fix was already out :(. So now i want to re-download it, is it safe to assume since the "bad" update was version 1.8.1 and the new downloadable version is 1.8.2 that the newer version has the fix in it?

1.8.2 did not resolve the problem for me. Website still down with plugin activated.

If I need to supply my name, address, phone number, email address... let's see, did I leave anything out... to make this work... I'm otta here!

1.8.3 has resolved this issue. The sites now run fine with plugin activated.

    Thank you Todd.

Just like we're all freaking out, I'm sure Todd is too knowing that we're all relying on him. I see that there's already a 1.8.3 version. A+ for response in my book, especially since it's available to all of us for FREE. I'm extremely impressed with the plug in so far and I'm not giving up that easy :).

Any feedback on version 1.8.3 yet?

Hi, guys. Unfortunately, I can't acces my site, my ftp can't connect, I can't get to the dashboard through the usual manner and my cpanel decided it won't listen to my commands anymore so I'm stranded.

do you have a hosted website? I had to access my plugin area through the hosting company in order to delete the plug in first. Once I had it deleted I was able to access my dashboard the regular way through my wordpress login screen and re-install. Hope this helps.

I do have a hosted website, a friend of mine hosts my site. I tried disabling them all from cpanel, but nothing happened. Then I tried connecting through the ftp, and couldn't do that so.. that's all I know how to do. I'm not very skilled and I'm stuck now.

I actually deleted it from my site all together and didn't try to disable or deactivate which worked then I was able to re-install it. Have you tried deleting instead of disabling?

If that doesn't work I would suggest contacting your friend who's hosting the account and they should be able to help you.

Hi, I just got that idea while going through my file manager and suddenly thought: why not just delete it, it can't do more harm :) And boom! It's solved, everything is great now :) I can't believe I was so wrapped up in trying to disable it and didn't see what was in front of me :) Probably a girl obsession thing. Thx for the ideas and hope all your websites are working just fine now!
    Have a good one!
