I have the same issue. I guess its because the plugin doesn’t use the right font coding. UTF-8 and UTF-16 perhaps will solve these issues. But it has to come from the designer.

It was an issue on the database side. MySQL doesn’t default to UTF so you have to force it on setup, for example, here’s what I changed my slide title to:
VARCHAR(150) CHARACTER SET utf8 NOT NULL DEFAULT ”
