I have updated today to version 1.22 of SMT.
After plugin update my all page fields are gone blank. Looking at the code, the output is blank either. Only on the Posts page meta info has been preserved (in the admin panel) but the encoding is broken (mine page is in Cyrillic).
Please analyse the issue. In fact it is a matter of a small site in my case, but i do maintain bigger sites (using older version of WordPress and Page-meta plugin). Such a problem never occured.
What page fields??? I’m not sure I understand what went wrong.
Have you got a screenshot or some demo data where the plugin broke on? I can only fix it if I can see an example of how it’s broken – as it is working fine on our machines.
the page fields I’ve mentioned are those which can be filled within
posts and pages with meta data. Well in Posts after upgrade they do persist (filled with data), but within Pages – are blank, neither in WordPress output code I can see rendered meta data.
The data in Posts however seems to persist but the output is non readable (due to encoding suppose). My OS is Windows and I use Firefox to edit data/fields (UTF-8). There must be no problem, database is also UTF-8. Bad luck is that i made the upgrade on production site 🙁 But luckily with not many pages and data.

I have uplodaded screenshots:
Thanks in advance,
I’m not sure what is going on with the Pages – maybe check to see you are not overriding things on the main “settings” -> “meta tags” section (although this should only affect the front end not the backend)
I’m surprised Cyrillic is even partially working – I will look into the weird chars (which I assume are something to do with the UTF-8 encoding) – this is down to us trying to update the meta tags to support UTF-8 but obviously is not working so well…
Sorry about the bother – I will try and make a new version release with the fixes as soon as possible.
Thanks for the feedback Dagan.
I didn’t touch any of the plugin settings (before or after the upgrade) nevertheless I took a look at them (at admin section)
and everything seemed to be ok (pages and posts are checked), after
upgrade. Only the placed data in Pages has been erased.
Simple Meta Tags is a nice plugin compatible
with latest version of Wordrpess. I hope that you’ll be able
to make it more stable and with Cyrillic support 🙂
Wish you luck,
By the way Dagan
I’ve just downgraded to version 1.2.0
of Simple Meta Tags and everything works fine
even the cyrillic output 🙂
Won’t update it until you confirm
that latest version will not erase old meta data
and works fine with Cyrillic characters.
Good to know…
The meta tags do not get erased the new version is trying to get them to validate certain characters and it probably fails on the Cyrillic ones – which then is not showing anything.
I will let you know when a stable release that supports Cyrillic is out.
need to mention that when downgrading to ver 1.2.0
the meta data didn’t appear on the production site
but I had to place it by hand on each page.
So it didn’t retrieve meta from the database (maybe only
for post’s it was ok, and weird chars became readable).
Thanks in advance for the Cyrillic support new version.
Version 1.2.3 is now up (published 15 minutes ago) and will support Cyrillic characters in a HTML validated way…
I tried it on my local machine and it worked fine.
I am not sure about the “missing” meta tags – this seems to work fine for me and when I upgraded did not make anything disappear… However I would be cautious if I were you and maybe upgrade first on a test server???
