• My website sells subscriptions (using the Woocommerce Subscriptions plugin) which renew on either a monthly, semi-annually, or annual basis. All along I was testing this using a PayPal Sandbox account, which of course has all features enabled (most importantly Reference Transactions). All was going well.

In the mean time, I was in communication with PayPal about enabling Reference Transactions on my Live account since this is needed for Automatic recurring billing, but it turns out my company does not meet their requirements since we are a startup. You either need Business Support or an Account Manager and each require that your company is already generating income.

This was a huge blow because the payment process with Automatic Recurring Billing was working perfectly with Paypal, and the capture of funds was instantaneous meaning no downtime in the user’s subscription.

Now I’m looking for alternatives and aren’t having much luck. I’m looking into Authorize.Net, and Braintree. Each are having issues currently with their plugins which Im trying to figure out along with the respective devs, but in the mean time, are there any other Gateways that work like Paypal, with instant capture, woocommerce subscription compatibility. Some gateways require the merchant to go into their account and capture the funds manually after a payment has been made. This is slightly problematic for my website, since it means the user cannot access their account in the mean time.

Anyway any other Woocommerce shop admins come across this issue and what gateways are you using now? Is Paypal being fair in their strict rules for enabling this feature, or should I keep pushing them?
