[Plugin: ShareThis] Editing Icon - How To Do It. (2 posts)

    After installing the ShareThis plugin on my blog (eighthsin.co.uk) I found that the icon was too big to fit in with my design.

    After reading around I encountered some documentation on resetting the API and some headache inducing coding.

    For those of you who like me, have no idea what they are talking about, here is what you need to type into your css stylesheet to change your ShareThis icon. (Edit the url to your preferred image destination).

    a.stico_default {background-image: url(http://www.mysite.co.uk/image_directory/image.png) !important;}

    For some reason, after changing the icon, the icon sometimes moves up a few pixels. Here is what you need to type to move it in line with your text. (Edit the number accordingly with how much you need the icon to move, I would advise keeping the numbers the same as each other).

    a.stbutton{position: relative; top: 2px;}
    .stbuttontext{position: relative; top: -2px;}

    Finally, if your 'ShareThis' text is too close or far away from the icon, this can be fixed using this code. (Edit the number accordingly with how much you need the text to move. This particular example is a 'minus' figure which moves the text closer to the icon).

    .stbuttontext{margin-left: -5px;

    I hope this is useful for anyone struggling to make ShareThis fit into their theme :).

    Alternatively, if you are like me and wanting to just get rid of the little icon all together, and just have it be the text, do the following:

    a.stico_default { background-image: none !important; padding: 0 !important; }
