After some testing, I can find absolutely no difference in PHP execution time. I’m sure if you were processing a dictionary, there would be…but not for my own website.

🙂 lol, ok, you convinced me its not dangerous to use it 😉

    Hi Ovidiu,
The reason I saw no performance hit is because I was only doing limited spins on each page. I did some additional testing with text that had 5,236 words, and here are the results:

    Amount of execution time

    • 721 spins = 3.92 seconds = 183 sps (spins per second)
    • 422 spins = 1.39 seconds = 303 sps
    • 209 spins = 0.33 seconds = 633 sps
    • 144 spins = 0.03 seconds = 4800 sps
    • 17 spins = 0.00 seconds = Infinite sps! 🙂

Note that with using in conjunction with any caching plugin will further reduce the impact on load time.

wow. thanks for updating this thread.

just to clarify: 1 spin equals i.e. {{text1|text2}} right?

I guess it doesn’t matter how those 721 spins were generated, i.e. if you had {{text1|text2|..|text721}} or several text variants/options that accumulated to a total of 721?

Right. {{text1|text2}} was mixed in with normal paragraph text 721 times.
