    Hi!

Search meter works great. The problem I have is with the popular searches widget – it display the most popular search terms on the sidebar. My most popular search has three words so it is displayed with this widget with the link to that search results. The problem is that the spaces are turned into %20 so clicking in that most popular search link returns zero results.

    Example:

My most popular search is “sun and water”

The popular searches widget from search meter shows a link with the text “sun and water”. Clicking there we go to http://www.site.com/search/sun%20and%20water

and that leads to a page saying Sorry, no results were found.

How can I resolve this so the popular searches widget in the sidebar can be useful, presenting links to pages that display the most searched items?

    Thanks for your attention.

This is due to a bug in WordPress. I have created a plugin called Search Fixer to deal with this problem. Go to the Plugins section of your WordPress console and search for Search Fixer. Install and activate it and it should fix your problem.

If you’re interested you can find details on the Search Fixer site: http://www.thunderguy.com/semicolon/2011/06/08/search-fixer-wordpress-plugin/

I plan to integrate this into Search Meter at some point.

    Works great. Thanks.

Ah! It fixes the search but not for categories. If I have post titles with “sun and water” and search for that they are found but if I have posts with the category “sun and water” and I search for that search term they aren’t found.

Is there any workaround to this?

That’s just the way WordPress search always works. It searches in post titles and text, but not in categories, tags or anything else.

Try another search plugin — there are lots around. Many of them are also compatible with Search Meter.

Yes, I forgot that I was using the plugin “Search Everything”. It searches also categories and tags but now I found out that it doesn’t find categories that are more than one word (with spaces between them). I’ll try to find another plugin that can do this or look if Search Everything can evolve to do it. If you know one that can do this please let me know. Thanks 🙂

Thanks for ‘Search Fixer’ Bennett… the ‘space’ problem was really starting to bug me..

I’m glad you find it helpful. I’ll close this topic now, since Search Fixer solves the problem.
