  • Resolved courtnee

    Hey there,

A recent update seems to have reintroduced compatibility issues with the WordPress app for iOS and android.

With having had these applications working until about 3 months ago, I now get a 401 permissions error for all content when attempting to edit or create with the mobile applications for both iOS and android. This error goes away when I disable role scoper. I have not changed permissions for years, however I have scoured the setti gs trying to get this to work but have thus far been unsuccessful. Help?

Do you see any corresponding entries in the server’s PHP error log?

    Hi Kevin,

I do not. Just ran the Android app against my site running the latest version of Role Scoper and did not note any PHP errors, even though the error 401 continues to come up for me on my Android phone.

Before I switched to Android, I had the same issues on my iPhone 3GS, and I have the same problem on my iPad 1, though the error handling is a bit different for the iOS apps. The iOS app does not show pages and offers message “couldn’t sync” and “Sorry, you cannot edit pages.” — I only got an actual error code 401 on my Android. Also, Post page is empty but no message shows up.

There is some other talk about this issue at which may help you track down the problem.

I know this started happening for me a version or two ago with Role Scoper, and that before I upgraded my plugins the mobile apps were working. It took me a little while to decide that the loss of functionality was worth investigating to this degree, so I am sorry I cannot tell you exactly which version broke my mobile app functionality. I would guess it was in the last few months.

Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Is this occurring with an Administrator login to the iOS app? If not, what is the WP role (and RS roles) of the user?

    Hi Kevin,

The account has administrator privs. Additionally, as part of my testing, I went into Role Scoper and granted access to that account in every possible way I could find. Only deactivating your plugin fixes the problem so far.

Similar problem. Only deactivating Role Scoper plugin (1.3.56) will allow me to post or read posts from WordPress Android App.

    WordPress – 3.4.2

Same probleme. After WordPress update from 3.2 to 3.4.1 (Role Scoper 1.3.56)
    Account has admin rights.

Role Scoper 1.3.57 contains some XML-RPC fixes. Let me know if this resolves the issues with your applications.

Perfect! Now everything works fine. Thank you very much.

Everything works great. Thank you for the help.

One thing I did notice which could be completely unrelated.

The ‘Default Post Category’ isn’t used when posting via xml-rpc (or at least with the android app) and posts with no category selected are placed into ‘Uncategorized’. Although, the ‘Default Post Category’ is used when posting from the Dashboard. Anyone have ideas?
