• I installed free relevanssi and successfully built this index per the instructions.

Problem: I don’t see any change in behavior with the search results from the Word Press default search.

It sounds like Relevanssi should use the same search box (I am using the search box widget that came with my Studio Press Genesis/Agency theme.)

Further reading of the installation instructions say, “make sure your search results template uses the_excerpt() to display the entries, because the plugin creates the custom snippet by replacing the post excerpt.” I can’t find a template for search results for this theme.

I have been learning about Word Press but do not profess to be an expert. I would greatly appreciate help in making this plugin do what it sounds it should do.

I’ve never tried Relevanssi with Genesis, but it’s possible it doesn’t work with Relevanssi without modifications. These framework themes don’t have traditional templates, so fixing them is slightly harder.

Since I don’t have a Genesis license, I don’t have access to the theme and can’t help you further with this. Perhaps you should ask Studio Press support?

Activating Relevanssi should give you visibly different results, even if the theme doesn’t use the_excerpt(). It’s possible Genesis uses the query_posts() function when displaying the search results in a way that makes Relevanssi not work.

Dear msaari and all others using Studio Press Genesis framework,

Thank you msaari for your suggestion.

After searching the Studio press forum, I found that Studio Press Genesis users must go to AdminInterface/Genesis/ThemeSettings/ContentArchives and:
    1. select “Display Post Excerpts”,
    2. set a character content limit. I set my limit to 300.

Now the search features work more as expected.
