any chance someone has gotten this to work as a “multi-widget”? what would be very useful to me. what would it cost to pay for that feature?

By multi-widget do you mean more than one instance? ie in sidebar 1 and sidebar 2

I am also interested in this.

Actually just use – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/php-code-widget/ and then use the code here – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/quotes-collection/other_notes/
