[resolved] When should I use "no follow" (3 posts)

I'm a newbie -- so thank you ahead of time for your patience and help.

I have a static page on my website.
Want to link to it via a post.
So I am doing a 302 redirect from the post to the static page.

So I am clicking "make redirect active."
In "redirect URL" I am inputting the url for the static page.
And for type of redirect I am using 302 permanent.

    Am I doing that right.

And my question is -- should I also check the "nofollow" box? What would that do?

    Thank you.

that sounds correct as long as you want the URL for the post to actually go to the static page all the time (at least for a period of time). The 302 tells search engines that it is only a temporary move and not to update the URL in the search results. If you want it to be permanent, use the 301.

    For No Follow:
Use the 'no follow' when you want a link to be redirected, but don't necessarily want the search engines to follow the link.

An example would be a link that you have going to a different site, say for advertising or affiliate reasons, you could use 'no follow' so the search engines do not index it as a link you are using on your site. Under normal circumstances, you would not need the 'no follow' option.

Thank you so much -- very helpful.

So are there any SEO advantages to using "no follow" for the post (while still having search engines be able to find the page)?
