  • Fabulous plugin. You’ve obvious put a lot of work into building it.

    Two questions:

    1. In your FAQ it’s stated that only the Featured Image, Title, and Excerpt will display in slider content. How about the promotion post’s actually content? Is there a way to display the entirety of the promotion post’s content in the slider? I’d like to use the promotion slider to display the individual promotions in their entirety which then link to more [different] detailed [custom] posts types.

    2. Has anyone implemented the promotional slider withing a tabbed slider? So that the promotions are hidden until the user clicks OR hovers over a tab, revealing a panel with the promotions. This way the user can decide to hide the promotional slider, if they wish to.

    Thanks!!

  • Should I echo the post’s content via?:

    ...
    add_action('promoslider_content', 'my_slider_content');
    function promoslider_extra_content(){
    echo '<< INSERT CUSTOM CONTENT HERE >>';
    }..

    Obviously, I’m not a programmer, though is this doable:

    add_action('promoslider_content', 'my_slider_content');
    function promoslider_extra_content(){
    echo '$content';
    }

    Especially when content is out of the loop?

    I believe that you will want to do something like this to display your content:

    // Remove the excerpt ( can also be removed via plugin options )
    remove_action('promoslider_content', 'promoslider_display_excerpt');
    // Add action to display content
    add_action('promoslider_content', 'my_slider_content');
    // Function to display content
    function my_slider_content(){
      global $post;
      echo $post->post_content;
    }

    Thanks for your quick reply. Does this code belong in the functions.php ?

    Can it be turned into a shortcode?

    Yes, you will want to place that in your active theme’s functions.php file. I am planning on adding an attribute to the existing Promotion Slider shortcode that will allow you to easily display the content instead of the excerpt.

    I am trying to do a similar thing, with the text of the posts appearing to the side of the slider. Once the code is added to the functions file, do I then need to add a location for it to point to?
    thanks

    The code sample above should get the content to appear in the slider. It is possible that the content is there, but you aren’t seeing it because of the CSS layout. Typically, adding content requires an adjustment of the CSS.

    I am not sure what you mean by ‘add a location for it to point to’…

    Just found this thread after Googling and it’s just what I needed. I really love Promotion Slider, but wanted to use it to show actual content as well as images. It would be great if you could add this functionality to the plugin, perhaps a tick box saying “include content in slider”.

    Is there a way of removing the background gradiant black image? I assume this is not possible on a per-promotion basis. I suppose I could set the background of the content to white, but it would be good to have the option.

    Finally, are there any plans on adding an embed button above the editor in posts/pages to easily embed a promotion? Gravity forms do this quite effectively. I’m not against having to type in the shortcode, it’s just easier (especially for noobs) to have a nice button to click!

    Thanks.

    OK, this is a very clumsy/dirty way of doing it, but at least it works…kind of…

    // Remove the excerpt ( can also be removed via plugin options )
    remove_action('promoslider_content', 'promoslider_display_excerpt');
    // Add action to display content
    add_action('promoslider_content', 'my_slider_content');
    // Function to display content
    function my_slider_content(){
      global $post;
      echo "<div style=\"width: 960px; height:250px; background-color: #fff;\">".$post->post_content."</div>";
    }

    Be great if there was a better way
