  • Hi,

I see that I can choose a specific template for a post when I write it.

But I don’t understand how the category part works.

I did a lot of searching but I’m failing to find a simple explanation about this part.

If I have a category named “Newsletters” and I want to control the appearance of each individual post (single.php view), I can do that when I write or edit a sinle post.

I would like a very simple explanation of what is supposed to happen when I go to the “Presentation->Post Templates” menu and select the “Newsletters” category and assign it a template.

Does this do a mass update of all individual posts? Or does this affect the look of the “List of Posts” that you see when you click on a category link on the side bar?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

In Manage > Categories, check the ID of category named “Newsletters”.

(i.e. “Newsletters” ID = 3), the filename of Newsletters template is “single-cat-3.php”.

    Others examples:
    Photos > ID 12 = single-cat-12.php
    Events > ID 8 = single-cat-8.php
