[resolved] Copyright Protection of Images - Watermark & Right-click Disable (5 posts)

    Hello Dalton.

Being a professional photographer I would like to be able to upload high resolution photos and be able to copy-protect them. Normally this is done via the following 2 features offered by the viewing platform (slideshow):

    1. Disable Right-click (and may be even 'Ctrl+C') on the slideshow so that the image cannot be downloaded (or copied) by most users.

    2. Display a Watermark on the slideshow. There are 3 types of water marks that can be enables and all 3 may be active on a slideshow:
2.1 Display two 1px diagonal lines going across from corner to corner i.e. a Giant X accross the slideshow frame.
2.2 Display some text (normally company name) in any one of 5 locations on a slideshow: upper-left, upper-right, lower-left, lower-right or center.
2.3 Display any Logo image in any one of 5 different locations on a slideshow: upper-left, upper-right, lower-left, lower-right or center.

Can the above features be added as options via settings & shortcodes for the Portfolio slideshow?

Correction: Don't need support to disable 'Ctrl+C' I meant to say disable 'Ctrl+Click' as that may be 'Right-Click' on some operating systems.

    Hi Janubande007,
I would recommend a separate watermarking plugin to watermark the original source images. If the source images are watermarked, then the images used in the slideshow plugin should be watermarked as well. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/watermark-reloaded/

You can also add your own javascript script to prevent images from being copied. A Google search should help you find more information about this. This is not something we would consider adding to the plugin, unfortunately.

Hi Dalton. Thanks for the suggestions. Please see my response below:

Regarding watermarks, I can add watermarks to my images on my own when I generate the upload images from originals, but I don't want to do that manually or automatically on my site via another plugin because that breaks portability of my images to be used accross different sites, brand-names or company-names.

For example: JWPlayer (avery popular video player plugin) supports player watermarks for content producers, so the actual image or video is not water-marked, but ther user sees it that way - sort of like you see a channel water mark on TV stations but the content is not marked at all since they have the broadcast rights. On a Webpage, this prevents a user from copying the image into the computer memory by doing a 'Print Scr' or 'Ctrl + Print Scr' just to paste it into photoshop or ms paint & save the image. And provided 'Right-Click' is also disabled then this prevents access to download of source content.

I'm not a developer but just a Pro-Photographer looking for click disabling & player water-marking features (not content water-marking as you suggest), so I won't be coding anything. But, if there's a ready plugin for it I'd prefer that, or if you can note these down as a requested features that would be great so you can implement them in your free time when you get a chance.

For you these would be great Add-on features to add to the Pro version, enhancing its value & appeal for paying customers.

I forgot to mention one more thing about the Player Watermark:

It would be preferred if the at least 1 Player Watermark is Clickable to a customized url. This is useful for to display authorized content from another content producer / photographer (or another of my brands or company).

Plus, such a clickable player watermark can be part of your Free version too but is is NOT customizable & always shows your company logo & links back to your website, which instantly will add over 200K back-links to you (giving your product huge exposure on the web also)...assuming all users update their plugin & have it on their public site somewhere.
