  • I tried this plugin for the first time today and noticed the same thing has happened to my deployment. Any chance you’re using Anthony Webbs’ Advanced Recent Posts widget? Where are you seeing your duplicate categories and tags?

    On my widgets!
    My dashboard is fine.

    My Categories Widget are disabled because everything is duplicated. But my tag cloud are active!

    Check it out:


    I made another test:

    – I did the uninstall process. Completely removing the Polylang.
    – After, I look at my Categories Widget and Tag Cloud Widget and everything is working fine again.
    – Re-installed the Polylang plugin.
    – Went to the settings page of the plugin.
    – Did all over again the configuration process.
    – Adding the Portuguese (dafault) and the English language.
    – Check the option to set all posts, tags and categories with the dafault language.
    – Then, I finally add the Categories and Tag cloud widget again.
    – BOOM! Everything are duplicated again.

    What do I doing wrong?

    No, After exhaustively trying many approaches, I gave up. Now all my blog posts are only in English and the old ones remain in Portuguese.

    All the others “free” plugins which I’ve tried I did not succeded.

    Did you try with a standard theme such as twenty ten and with only Polylang activated as plugin and then switch the theme and activated all other plugins one by one to see if comes from a conflict with the theme or another plugin?

    I have tried with twenty ten and no other plugin activated: still the same thing! Is this a Polylang bug?

    Thank you but it’s OK now, I have your site in a local install. This db dump is a great idea in fact. Thus it should be easier to debug. Just want to check that I reproduce exactly the same things as you.

    Duplicate categories are displayed by the categories widget. It seems that not all categories are duplicated. I found 2 categories: with ids 12 and 14. Is it the same for you?

    3 categories are duplicated in fact. The language information is duplicated in the database for these 3 categories. But I don’t know yet how it could occur.

    Did you use the red option “There are posts, pages, categories or tags without language set. Do you want to set them all to default language ?” in language settings to set the language of your existing content?

    Yes, we’ve got the same db! 🙂 And I did get the option: “There are posts, pages, categories or tags without language set. Do you want to set them all to default language?” when installing polylang.

    Yes you got the option, but did you check it? Do you remember if you set the language of the 3 duplicate categories using this option?

    I still haven’t found the reason for this bug. Your answer may help me.

    Waiting for this, I wrote a small plugin to correct the database when someone gets this issue.

    *Make a backup of your database*
    Copy paste in a file correct.php
    Upload the file in the plugins directory
    Activate the plugin -> it should immediately remove duplicate tags and categories
    Deactivate the plugin and delete it
