    Hey there,

Me and my friends wanted to make up a fun little site where we post silly polls. Maybe just one user account for posting, instead of multi-accounts. The question..

How large can we make it?

Could we have 500 or even 1,000 polls without wordpress/polldaddy slowing the site down?

And just hypothetically, if more friends of friends come to vote and usage / traffic gets high, can the software handle it?

And what other plugins would be useful (like a cache?) to try and keep the site fast?

I know, may never have those problems, but it would be nice to know if the platform could handle it, in the slim chance it will have to.

    Thanks.

(hosting is business class with inmotion hosting, figure I think could handle a lot)

  • Hi there,

you can create as many polls as you like. The only bottleneck is the number of polls you can embed on a page at one time. With Internet Explorer, there is a limit to the number of external script calls per page, which limits the number of polls to around 30 (IIRC) for this browser.

The poll script is set up to load in the page footer, which means the page load times should not be noticeable.

    Thanks!

    Let me clarify my question.

I was thinking more each poll having its own page. So, could have 500, 1,000 or more pages, each with a poll. Crazy, I know, but I’m curious if how large a site built on polldaddy / wordpress could go. I believe it uses the database?

If you have a few thousand people voting on the 1,000 pages at the same time, would the database / software be able to handle it, or would most users notices the site slowing down? If it could handle that, how large could it be before it does start to slow?

    Thanks again.

The poll votes are handled by our servers and they are well able to handle that kinda load.

    Thanks!

If things get “crazy” traffic wise, is there ever a point you guys would pull the plug or would you speak with me first?
