    Hello,
Can Podpress allow multiple enclosures to be downloaded in iTunes?

    In the FAQ it states

I have a post and have added two (or more) media files via podPress. Why is it not possible to mark them all for the usage in a RSS Feed?
podPress allows only one media files enclosure per post in the RSS Feeds because the RSS specification is unclear about this point and W3.org Feed Validator would say that it is not recommended to have more than one <enclosure> per RSS post element (<item>). You can find a summary about this matter in part 1 and part 2 of in article at the therssweblog.com. But probably more important is that iTunes recognizes only the first <enclosure> of each <item>. That is also valid for multiple enclosure elements per <entry> element of an ATOM Feed. But if like to have more than one media file per post in an News Feed then you could use such a Feed. You can use the “Include in:” option in the box below the post editor to choose the media file which should be in the default RSS Feeds.

This seems to indicate it cannot

iTunes recognizes only the first <enclosure> of each <item>. That is also valid for multiple enclosure elements per <entry> element of an ATOM Feed

Has anyone been able to get multiple enclosures per post working in iTunes, maybe with a different method, maybe a custom xml?

    Thank you

As it is mentioned in the FAQs and above: the RSS specification is maybe not very precise about multiple <enclosure>s per post. But iTunes does not support multiple episodes per post. That makes it to a standard. That is why podPress does not allow more than one episode per post in RSS feeds.
Posts in ATOM feeds are allowed to have more than one episode per post. The specification allows it. That is why podPress allows it too.
But I’m not sure whether there is one podcatcher which supports that. You can subscribe to ATOM feeds with the iTunes client software on your computer. But the last time I have controlled this, iTunes showed only the first of the episodes of the post.

Hi ntm, what about the solution they have here:?

    http://www.radio4all.net/responder.php/podcast/podcast.xml?series=TUC+Radio

If a radio4all post like this one contains multiple mp3 files, the radio4all rss generator just generates multiple rss episodes with title-postfix “Segment N”, each with one enclosure and one mp3 file. So it’s perfectly compliant and works like a dream in any podcatcher including iTunes.

Is this trick currently available in any wordpress rss generator (plugin)?

Actually to be more precise, I would be interested in a wordpress rss generator that operates on data that you can feed into wordpress with xmlrpc. (As far as I could see that is currently not the case with podpress attachments, but correct me if I’m wrong). I.e. the standard no-plugin wordpress rss generator fits that part of my bill since it operates directly on the post’s standard entry textfield, in which it will look for html anchors pointing to audio files. Unfortunately, like the podpress plugin, it only picks the first anchor found.

The reason I need to restrict to xmlrpc-controllable feeds is because I want to port a site comparable to radio4all to become a wordpress site, and it’s too big to do manually.

If such functionality is not currently available, which php files would you recommend me to change in order to have the standard wp rss feed be modified to implement the desired feature?

    Thanks!
