  • Resolved dacton

Sorry to sound like a broken record, since this seems to be a common issue brought up in recent months…

I’m trying to install the button in Picasa (v.3.6.0). Your plugin installed fine in WordPress. When I click the “Install Image Upload Button in Picasa Desktop” link in Settings/Media, I’m asked by Windows to confirm the application to use for opening the link. I confirm Picasa, then I’m asked to “Launch Picasa and import buttons?” When I click Yes, it doesn’t work. If Picasa is already open, simply nothing happens. If Picasa was closed at the time, it’s loaded but no new button shows up. There’s nothing new in Tools/Configure Buttons menu either.

    WP 3.0.1
    Picasa 3.6.0
    Windows 7 32-bit
    Permalinks – numeric (

If you haven’t already, upgrade to v0.4.

Then follow the Troubleshooting instructions to enable the plugin debug log and provide the log. It sounds like there might a problem generating the required content for the button.

    Yes, I’m using v0.4.
I enabled permalinks, enabled the plugin debug log, saved changes, then tried to install the button (via the link on the settings page) twice. Here’s all I get in the debug log:

The plugin isn’t detecting that it’s being run when Picasa connects so the button code isn’t downloading. I’ll run some experiments to see if I can duplicate the problem.

I’ve been unable to recreate this problem. The latest version of the plugin includes additional debug logging and might help point at the problem if you’d try the latest version.

    I’m having the same problem:

    Windows 7 32-bit
    WP 3.0.4
    Picasa 3.8.0

    here’s the log:

@bigredpaul, what version of the plugin are you using? (Note to self, add this to the log.)

Based on the log content Picasa isn’t sending the required request to download the button contents to the server. Can you send me the URL referenced in the “Install Image Upload Button in Picasa Desktop” link? I’d like to see what is being sent to Picasa for the request.

I suspect the URL is somehow too complex for Picasa given how picky it is in other areas of this API.

I am experiencing this same issue. Has a solution been found for this problem yet?

@pjpow No – a specific solution hasn’t been identified yet. From logs received so far the problem is in Picasa. It’s very sensitive to data format and things have to be just right for it to work.

Would you install the development version, also available from this page:

Then turn on the debug logging and post the information. Also, are there any errors in the server log?

It’s possible that this problem is resolved with the latest update. If wordpress is configured with the files in a different directory from the URL that will be used for the site (see the WP ‘General Settings’) then the plugin was generating incorrect URLs. v0.6.2 addresses this configuration.
