Is anyone having trouble with categories. I just got a trouble report and I am trying to trace down the issues. The categories on my site are working well, but someone claims that it is redirecting their categories to a web page.

Normal behavior is that the category redirects to a loop that selects all the posts or pages in the category. If there is only one page it might be that the person thinks that the category is not working and is redirecting to a link instead.

Did you ever find a solution to this?

    My trouble is as follows:

Org link (This is the link that is posted in google or in this case facebook)
    Org Link: http://www.cliffviewpilot.com/bergen/4445-englewood-anti-drug-program-nabs-woman-selling-ecstasy-from-ice-cream-truck

    Permalink redirects to:
    Redirects to: http://cliffviewpilot.com/bergen/4445-englewood-anti-drug-program-nabs-woman-selling-ecstasy-from-ice-cream-truck/
(This takes the visitor to the category)

When I manually remove the category slug and try the link again:
    Manually removed category: http://cliffviewpilot.com/4445-englewood-anti-drug-program-nabs-woman-selling-ecstasy-from-ice-cream-truck/

    Then Permalink redirects properly to:

I think that this is WordPress, not the plugin. WordPress sees the category and sends you there, no matter what. It does not issue the 404. I think that the plugin isn't doing anything in this case. The 4445 in the beginning does nothing more than confuse WordPress. The plugin, if it had intercepted a 404, would have done a search and found the link without the 4445.

    Unless I am missing something...

Does the redirect show up in the list of the plugin's redirected pages or 404 errors?

It does not. Anyway of making wp stupid and not trying to figure it out and throw a 404 so it will go to the plugin?

I am digging into the WordPress code. They got rid of categories and made category a kind of Taxonomy with a very complicated way of looking up tags. I think it searches for the category and then the post, but if there is no post it just shows the category list by default.

I don't see any way to hook the wordpress code to detect the hit on category with a miss on the post. I will continue to dig, but I don't quite have a handle on the way WP displays a taxonomy or why it doesn't know it has hit a 404.
