• Steps

    1. download install plugin as per usual and activate.

    2. go to widgets and drag the donation target meter to the side panel.

    3. at this point you will need to add in your api username, password and secret code. You will need to have a paypal account to get the apis.

    Personal paypal accounts don’t have apis. You need to upgrade your account to premium paypal account which doesn’t cost you anything.

    So under paypal profile, you can then request for an api. There are 2 types of api. Get the one which has username and password provided.

    Around this point you should have you api details. Input them into the widget.

    4. So now the meter works, but there is no donation button. This you will need to go to the paypal profile page and find the option for button creation. I suggest you use encrypted buttons so that you will not be required to use a certificate in order to get encryption enabled.

    So once the button factory has generated the code, copy that and paste it into your widget to show above or after the target meter.

    5. make sure the widget is set to live.

    Now everything is set up and all working, enjoy :}

    PS: remember your paypal account needs a bank account or a credit/debit card added to it in order to use this plugin :}

    *bugs: i noticed that the target meter debug tool shows in regular user profiles. To make it not show for them, i use menu editor to remove it for non admin users.

    Yeah sure go ahead man no problem.

    :}

    I had to do tons of research to find all this out @_@: gosh im pooped.

    You might want to tidy that up though. I usually make a mess with long sentences lulz :}

    For part 2 you might want to advise them to enable under sandbox as not everything has finished being setup yet, so we don’t want it to go live just yet.

    Only set to live at the end of the steps once everything is ready.

    Forgot to mention that the button factory is what that paypal page for encryption settings advises you to use if you rather not install a certificate to make encryption enabled.

    Button factory gives you encryption without needing the certificate installed on your server. Hence i find the button factory more convenient.

    yeah, the button factory is primarily to hide your account email address, actually.

    While I’ll include the info in the README, this widget is really not intended to be tied directly to a donation button – it just happens that it can be via the before/after content.

    yeah which i think is convenient, because people are gonna want to add the paypal button widget beside that paypal target meter of yours :}

    Loki, you may want to add some pictures how to get the api from paypal. Here are the screenshots

    Hi there,

    I just installed PAYPAL TARGET METER on my website: wavemanual.com and it looked great, and seemed to install properly based on your guide.

    But in the last 24 hours I’ve received 3 different donations in my Paypal account and the meter hasn’t grown accordingly. Is their something I can do to fix this problem??

    We are in the middle of a funding campaign so any help ASAP would be deeply appreciated!!!

    Self try clear your wordpress cache and see if that works.

    Could be that your api is incorrectly entered. check for that.

    Hey thanks for the advice,

    I’m a bit of a new jack- I’ve googled clearing wordpress cache and a variety of info comes up, is this an additional plugin I need or a process I need to perform?

    Thanks Moog!!

    Well for me, i use quick cache. At a click of a button i can clear my cache. Then i refresh the browser and wahlah 😀

    To test try that it works, after you verify you enter the correct api and other details etc.

    You should try to donate to yourself to check receiver and donators emails what details are given.

    And also you can then check if the google meter bar updates.

    So say someone donated to you in June 2011, but now is already July 2011. So in the paypal meter you may not see a bar, as by default i believe it shows the donations for the current month.

    Or you could try change the setting to show yearly, to test that the meter is working. Thats how i tested using both methods :}

    Is the signature the same as the Paypal API secret?
