Support » Plugin: Online Backup for WordPress » [Plugin: Online Backup for WordPress] Scheduled backups aren't working

  • Hello,

Scheduled backups aren’t working for me. I already contacted WP Online Backup support by e-mail:

I’m using the Online Backup WordPress plugin and despite having enabled weekly scheduled backups nearly 2 weeks ago (in several sites), when I check either the plugin dashboard or the web dashboard the backups seem not to have been updated since then.

And I got the following possible solution:

Please try creating a new post in WordPress and have it automatically publish at a future date.
On some servers that are not configured correctly by the host, this will not work as the internal scheduling inside WordPress isn’t working.
Trying to create a “future post” is a good way of testing that the internal scheduling is working OK.

If the future post works fine, please post in the forum the issue again and that you have tried this and somebody will offer further assistance.
However, the primary cause of the scheduled backup not working is that the host is not configured correctly and WordPress’s internal scheduling doesn’t work either.

However I’ve tried to create scheduled posts as proposed and they are created just fine, so I don’t know what the issue could be.

These are screenshots of the current plugin settings in one of the sites:

Any ideas are highly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Roberto,

    One last thing to try.
Can you go to Plugins in WordPress, and deactivate the plugin.
    Then reactivate it.

Then go to the Schedule page in the plugin and simply click Apply Schedule.

This will make sure that the schedule is setup – if the future posts is working I have a suspicion the schedule isn’t registered properly. Deactivate and apply schedule will make sure it is definitely registered again.

When you go to the front page of the plugin it should then say a new time for the next scheduled backup. Let me know if it doesn’t.

    Hi Jason,

I did as you suggested and found out that only “Weekly” schedules do not work. In Overview it will only show a general message saying that the backup will start at any time, no matter that I schedule it in 5 days’ time. Could it have to do with WordPress using es_ES locales? I noticed that when setting weekly schedules, the “Day to perform backup” shows up in Spanish, so it might have to do with the schedule not being registered. All my sites use the Spanish locales (other common features are Dreamhost hosting and WordPress version 3.2.1).

Daily, 4 times daily… backups get scheduled properly, i.e. showing an exact date and time in the Overview panel. However, I tried one of them and the backup failed (this might be a different issue not related to the scheduling system). It run for more than 3 hours and ended with “Unexpected stop”. When this morning I logged in in the site, a backup reattempt started automatically, which also failed due to a different reason. I attach more details in the following screenshots:

Jason, thank you very much for your support. Should you need it I could provide you with access to one of the sites for you to check it live (to help you refine the plugin only! I’m very grateful for the support you’ve already given me).

    Kind regards,

    Hi Roberto,

The unexpected stops can happen if the blog doesn’t get that many visits. We’ve improved it much in the next version (2.1.0). This next version is still under testing but we’re using it live ourselves and consider it stable. Just waiting for the thorough testing to finish before we click the release button!

If you want to try it you can download it from here:
It is listed as “Development Version” under the section “Other Versions”

You’ll need to uninstall the current version though and then Add New plugin in WordPress and Upload the development one you’ve downloaded.

As for the issue with the Weekly schedule – locale shouldn’t have much to do with it. You will notice it change back to English though in the next version – we finally wrapped up the internationalisation so it should behave properly.
I’ve let the testers know to test the weekly schedule and make sure it works too just in case it is a problem with the weekly schedule.
