    Hi kpalfreyman,

Very strange! The plugin won’t have caused the files to go missing as the plugin is completely incapable of deleting data.

You should contact your host about this as they may know what happened. The only thing I can think of is that while the plugin was generating the backup, it caused you to go over your space quota and they disabled the account.

    Regards,

I still am not sure what happened, but all of my stuff is back! It just appeared a few hours later. I am nervous to try the backup again.

    Hi kpalfreyman,

If the files have reappeared it maybe related to your host.
Best to contact them to find out what happened.

I have a similar issue. This plugin has never worked for me. The back-up runs for days but always fails. When I run a manual back-up it gets to about 46% and then takes my site down. This has happened twice. What I’m left with is the WordPress install page. Files are still on the host but my site is down. This is really unacceptable. Host is StartLogic.

Any ideas on what I can try to get this working?

    Hi brent665,

Apologies for the issues your are having.

Make sure there are no huge files in your web space, such as files larger than 50MB or so. This can sometimes cause the stalling and the failure.

We have not been able to reproduce the install page appearing though and can only presume this is the result of some oddity with the host configuration. We’ll see what we can find on that host’s configuration and I’ll see if we can reproduce it.

    Jason.

The site itself doesn’t have any large files. The entire site is about 60MB – 70MB. However, when I go to “wp-content/plugins/wponlinebackup/tmp/” there are several “gzipbuffer.1.php” files in excess of 300MB.

I can consistently bring the site down by trying a manual back-up but bringing it back is a bit more elusive. It seems like when I go back to my host and have it verify the address to my WP site, then it works again. Any ideas? I would like a better back-up solution than FTP to my HDD.

    Hi brent665,

That gzipbuffer file size points to a very large database. Do you know how big your WordPress database is?

I think the database might just be too big to handle at the moment, sorry.
Hopefully eventually we’ll be able to handle much bigger database but at the moment we dump it gradually (into the buffer file) and then have to compress it all at once – limitation of PHP environment :-(.
I’ve got an idea in the process though which will change a lot of the compression so we can do it a bit at a time and avoid this gzipbuffer. But this will take some time to realise and fully test.

I think for now you may be best with manually doing a backup through your CPanel or other control panel you have for your website, and downloading it to your computer.

    Jason.
