    I am attempting to back up my WordPress website at http://www.narcissismcured.com/blog/.

    Every backup has failed and the activity log reads:

    The backup failed: The server attempted to retrieve the data, but received junk from your blog. This can happen if your blog is not accessible over the internet. Otherwise, you may have a third-party plugin installed that is changing the backup data as the server tries to receive it. Please contact support if this is the case so we may improve compatibility.

    I have the following 3rd party plugins activated:

    – Google Analytics for WordPress
    – Twitter Facebook Social Share
    – WishList Member

    and other plugins installed, but not activated.

    I tried deactivating Google Analytics for WordPress
    but the backup still failed. I do not want to
    deactivate the other plugins.

    Any suggestions on what I can do to get my
    backups to work?

    Hi Karen,

    Please can you email your username to support “at” backup-technology.co.uk and include a link to this topic? Also put “Online Backup for WordPress” in the subject line.

    We can check on server and see what the junk is, which will help find the problem.

    Hi Karen,

    I got the email, but you only linked to the topic, and I cannot find a username in the email. Can you send again and make sure to include the username you use for the Online Backup Settings page in the plugin?

    Hi Karismac,

    Still not sure what the issue is. Is your plugin currently backing up? We’re waiting for the plugin to send data again and it will be captured for analysis. That might be what the delay is.

    Could you run one manually? This will trigger it. We can look at it today then.

    Okay I will do it now …

    The backup worked this time – I am not sure why. For some reason the scheduled backups have not been running however? Is there something extra I need to do to set that off?

    Hi karismac,

    Should work fine should the scheduled backups as long as your WordPress is getting visitors (it’s how WordPress handles scheduling… somebody visits and during the request it runs the schedules.)

    Let’s leave it to run some more. I’ll let you know if nothing runs in a couple days.

    If we can reproduce the problem we’ll have the data on our server we can use to diagnose it.

    Hi Jason – The scheduled backups still are not working. I just updated the plug in and the manual backup I did said there was a problem???

    Hi Karismac,

    If the scheduled backup is not running at all, and no activity log entries are appearing, what does it say on Overview page for the plugin? It should say Backups Scheduled and give the time of the next backup.

    The backup that ran when you posted appears to be successful from our side. Can you provide the event log from the plugin if it wasn’t? (Select it in the post and click the “code” button to keep it tidy)
