• Hi there.

I just finished the first release of my Creative Commons plugin. It’s a fork of Firas’ WP-CC plugin and extends its features.

You can select jurisdiction, license and license version. The plugin supports any available jurisdiction, any available license versions (currently 1.0, 2.0 and 2.5, depending on the selected jurisdiction) and any available CC license (apart from public domain, CC/GPL and CC/LGPL).

License selection is supported by a wizard to ensure that no invalid combination of jurisdiction/license/license-version is chosen by the user.

Similar to WP-CC the license information can be added either automatically or manually (by calling one of three template tags). Similar to WP-CC the following output “formats” are supported: metadata, linked image and linked text.

More detailed information about o42-CC can be found here. The plugin itself is distributed under a BY-SA-2.0-de license.

Comments and suggestions are highly welcome.

    Bye, Mike

  • Mmm, if I may, Firas is distributing his plugin under a GPL license. Meaning your derivative work needs to be GPL as well — unless, of course, Firas specifically acknowledged the CC By-SA.

Thanks for bringing that up Denis, I hadn’t even thought of it.

I don’t think licensing software under CC is the best of ideas, so I won’t change WP-CC to one of those, but on the other hand I don’t want to impose my view on Michael’s work. So yeah, he’s free to license his stuff containing parts of WP-CC under any CC or OSI-approved license he wishes.

Thanks to Denis for mentioning, and thanks to Firas for allowing relicensing his work.

    Hi Mike,

Great plugin. I had to manually add the tag to my footer to see the logo, but all of the header info went in fine. One question; How come I can only use this license: Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0. When I try to use 2.5 and click on the logo, I get a “page not found”. My site is: http://blog.maltese.net

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Chris

@soflachris: If your theme doesn’t call the do_action(‘wp_footer’) hook, it won’t show. You can add this hook to the footer of most themes pretty easily, and that will fix the problem.
