Support » Plugin: Ninja Announcements Lite » [Plugin: Ninja Announcements Lite] 2.0 vs 1.4 . Can I revert to 1.4 ?

    Hi,
I upgraded the plugin from the last version to 2.0 which was released recently. However, after upgrading, the annoucement takes more time to load than the previous version. This is possibly because now it has the ability to do much more than what it could do earlier.
I am using this plugin for making quite a basic annoucement so can I still use the previous version ? Or are there any bug fixes because of which I should use the newer version

Yes, you can technically still use the previous version in some cases and I’m not aware of any major bugs but it is quirky now that WordPress has a new way of using wp_editor.

Could you provide a link to the page the is loading slower so perhaps I can see if some optimizing is needed?

Thanks for the quick response. Here’s the link. The annoucement in the pulldown at the top
    http://www.aristotleprep.com/
It opens properly on high speed internet connections but on normal ones(1-3 Mbps),it takes sometime to load.

The second problem is that there’s the height of the annoucement has increased because of the additional white space strip at its bottom which is used for accomodating the open/close button. That doesn’t look good at all! Otherwise, I love this plugin. Had used a lot of others but they didn’t do the job as easily as this did.

@mann1, Just wanted to give you an update. concerning the slowness, there are a number of things you might want to look at. Your theme is including it’s own version of jQuery and it appears to not be using the proper enqueue script process for this. That means you have 2 versions of jQuery running on every page load. That will cause conflicts and definitely slow down your site.

Concerning the close button. If you check in the announcement settings to now allow the user to reopen the announcement than the buttin will move inside the announcement box and remove that white space.

    I hope the info helps.

Thank you James. That was helpful and will look into that. Thank you very much again. I love Ninja !

    Hey James,
One more issue I have been facing is that the text of the announcements shows up in the search results meta description.
For example, if you google “gmat study plan aristotleprep.com” , you will see that in all the search results, the meta description shows “Special combo offer…” which is the text I have put in ninja announcement. I don’t want that to appear. How do I do that ?

This happens when you use the automatic placement and have not set your meta description explicitly. Since the announcement is the first text Google sees it becomes the description. Either set your meta description explicitly in your theme or by using an SEO plugin or don’t use the automatic header location for your announcements.

You should be doing explicit SEO anyway so that would be my choice to start.

Thanks James for the response. I have activated the SEO plugin and hopefully the meta descriptions should change. However, there is another problem which Ninja annoucement is causing. The RSS feed of my website is throwing up error because the first thing which appears is the ninja announcement. If you enter http://www.aristotleprep.com in the feed validator service below, you will see that it throws up error related to Ninja announcement.

My sitemap is also not getting generated because of this issue.
Would be glad if you could help

    Hey Mann,

Thanks for your input. We’re aware of this issue, it has to do with where Ninja Announcements places itself in the WordPress hook system. A fix is in the pipeline, but I’m not sure when it will be released. A temporary fix would be to place the Ninja Announcements display into your theme in the header, after your initial blog output. This will mean it’s not the first thing crawlers see when looking at your site.

    Mann,

I think I have fix for this. I just need to do some testing and see if I can implement a new feature before I release it. I may be able to release as early as tomorrow but that’s just a guess at this point.

    Hey James,
We have been waiting for a fix for the issue mentioned above. You said that you are going to release the fix soon but been more than 2 weeks .I understand that you may be tied up with other work also but at least can you please me know in how much time do you plan to release the fix. All the Ninja announcement users will be really happy if you can do that soon.

My sincerest apologies. I was out of town last week and playing catch up this week. Today and tomorrow morning are super busy but I’m going to set aside a block of time tomorrow to get this update pushed out.

    Again, my apologies.
