• Hello!

I have an online talent contest and are using NextGEN Gallery to display each contestant’s photos, press clippings, etc.

My first iteration of our “Fan Club” is simply individual posts, with each contestant’s gallery embedded into the post along with their bio *(text).

However, as we grow, we could have up to 500 or more contestants and I don’t want to post that many posts or pages!

How can I use the “Album” functionality of NGG to create a single PAGE where the FAN CLUB ALBUM is located, with sub-GALLERIES inside that album for each contestant?

This way the fans can just open the album, find the contestants they’re interested in, and then go to their individual gallery!

    Thank you so much!

  • I think you want to do something like that shown on this page. The page shows an Event album with individual Galleries for each Event.

First create your album in NGG, and place the Galleries in it. Then, create a page and use the shortcode [album id=1] in it, replacing the 1 with your own album number.

All that is left is to display the page. How you do that depends on your theme. Most have an option to put a page in the menu.

Thanks so much, I’m getting close but need a little bit more help!

    Here’s what I created:

It works just fine, I created a new ALBUM and then loaded the two galleries created so far into it.

The album (new PAGE) creates a new menu on the main page menu bar, exactly what I wanted.

It shows the two galleries when you click on this menu button, BUT, when the galleries load, they don’t load the text created for them, the same text that is in the “ALBUM” page loads instead.

The upper link (David Kruse) is calling this page: instead of the album page created which has the contestant’s bio in it, here:

I think this is a simple fix if I can just match up the right URL with the individual links inside the album, where it shows each gallery/link!

    Can you help please?

    Thanks so much!

Well, unfortunately, the NGG does not operate the way you describe. Each gallery thumbnail inside an album page just loads the individual gallery back on the same page. It does not link to a post.

Keep in mind that everything that NGG shows is on a Page, not a Post.

Of course, you can code a link to the bio Post inside the text that you put in the gallery. The format is a little goofy: <a href=?p=222 >Joe Blow</a> to link to page 222.

Or, you can create a bio Page and put the gallery code inside it. If you go to Admin->Gallery->Manage Gallery, and edit a Gallery, there is a ‘Page Link to’ box at the top right where you can select the name of the bio Page.

Haha, that’s exactly what I did, I created a “bio post” and put the text for the bio at the top, and then the nextgen code for that particular gallery inside the page.

The issue is how the album treats the “bio post” as above. It loads the pictures just fine, including the slide show, but it won’t show the text created for the original post, instead it just leaves its description *(of the album) at the top as its default.

Instead, I need it to load the original “bio post” text at the top, and the thumbnails of the photos under it.

If I can accomplish this I’ll be done!

Your help has been invaluable, thanks!

That is really strange. Look at this link, and then click on the ‘2009 Overlook’ thumbnail. I just put a little text at the top of that Gallery Page as a test.

Yep, yours works, mine doesn’t LOL.

Can we fast-track this and I can supply you with my admin login so you can just do a once-over and then we can both rest?!

    My best wishes, and thanks!

Sure, but create a temp login/pw for me and mail to mac =at= mcdspot =dot= com.
