I’ve been using NextGen on my site and it’s been working fine… until last night! The images that I’ve uploaded are still working but when I try to upload new images I get a message saying:

Unable to write to directory . Is this directory writable by the server?

I’ve managed to create new albums and add images to posts and pages from existing galleries, but trying to upload causes the error. The permissions on the gallery folders are set at 755 so I can’t see where the error is.

There is one factor that might have a bearing on the error – in an attempt to optimize images I installed the wp smush.it plug in but, as it seemed too heavy on the resizing of the images, I uninstalled it – Could the plug in have added a command that blocks the uploads? I’ve re-installed the wp smush.it plugin to see if that reinstated the uploads but this didn’t work. I have no problem when I upload via wp’s own media uploader so it would seem that it’s the nextGen uploader that is causing the problem.

    Any ideas?

  • Update – I’ve done a NextGen reset and the uploader seems to work now… weird

Got same issue, juste reseted and now is fine. Thanks for the tip. But don’t know why I could not load new pictures as more than 9000 pictures were already loaded !
