Since the last plugin update I get an announcement covering the top of my screen about NextGen Gallery being acquired. I have clicked dismiss 1000 times it seems and it keeps coming back. I install this on on my clients websites but if this isn’t corrected very rapidly I will find an alternative. I would rather have an inferior plug-in than that announcement popping up every time I click something in the backend.

  • they fixed this in 1.9.6. are you using the most up to date version of the nextgen?

1.9.6 is what I have installed.

I just uninstalled 1.9.6 and reinstalled and it started again. The only way I can get it to stop is to uninstall it.

This issue affected a small number of users with 1.9.5. We did introduce a fix for this in 1.9.6, which solved the issue for most people. At this point, there are only a handful of people with the issue, and it probably has something to do with conflicts or incompatibilities on your site.

We did look at one of the sites, and the cause was plugin conflict with the JQuery Updater plugin. We deactivated that plugin, dismissed the announcement, and reactivated it and that did the trick.

So we’d suggest deactivating this and any other plugins to see if that solves the problem for you.

We also received a Tweet from one user that following NextGEN on Twitter (there’s a link in the announcement box) allowed the dismiss to work. That’s clearly not our intent, and we have no idea why that would have an effect, but since it worked for one other user, I thought we’d pass it on. If you do have to do that, we apologize, you’re welcome to unfollow us immediately after.

    Thanks,
    The Photocrati Team

I am having the same issue—-over and over the pop-up will not go away. I have the latest version of NextGen running as well as the latest wordpress.org running. I too will be looking for an alternative if this can’t get resolved.

PLEASE SORT THIS OUT. IT IS BEYOND UNCOOL.

Hi all, we’ve looked at this quite a bit and we are unable to duplicate this problem ourselves. If you are one of the people having this issue and you are willing to give us admin access to your site to troubleshoot, please contact us here: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/contact/ with the details. Please try the steps below first.

We’ve corresponded already with several people still having the issue and here are the things you should try:

    1) Verify you are using NextGEN 1.9.6, which has a fix for this problem that solves it for most users.

    2) Plugin conflicts. Disable each of your plugins, then try dismissing, then reactivate the plugins. We know of at least two cases where this is some kind of plugin conflict.

    3) Follow us on Twitter, and dismiss the announcement while still logged into Twitter. At least one person was able to make it go away this way. This is obviously completely unintentional, and doesn’t work for most others.

    4) Try another browser. In at least one case, it seemed to be browser related and the dismiss worked fine in another browser.

And if you’re still having the issue after all that, feel free to contact us via the link above. Thanks!

    Hi all,

Just wanted to follow up on this. Please see our posts above for an overview of steps to take if you’re having this issue. Even with those steps, it’s still affecting some users, so we just wanted to pass along a quick and sure solution. This involves editing the plugin code, so we’ve tried to word this so even those without coding knowledge can figure it out:

    1) Log in to your site
    2) Go to Plugins > Editor
    3) Select NextGEN Gallery from the drop down at upper right.
    4) Make sure the ngggallery.php file is highlighted on the right hand list of files
    5) Scroll down about 100 lines in the nggallery.php, just comment out the relevant line by doing this:

    Change this:

    add_action('admin_init', array(&$this, 'display_update_notice'));

    To this:

    // add_action('admin_init', array(&$this, 'display_update_notice'));

That is, just add // in front of the line and save your file.

That will solve your issue. As always when editing files, we recommend that you back up your files. If not, at least ensure you have a copy of the NextGEN Plugin on your own computer. That way if you go in there and do something else that affects your site or functionality, you can easily return the ngggallery.php file to it’s original.

The announcement will no longer be needed and will be removed in the next update.

    Thanks,
    Erick

Are you only doing updates related to Photocrati?

And is there a chance you’ll finish up the support web site? There’s a lot of stuff missing and broken under Documentation.

It’OK selling it but I simply can’t upload images to a new gallery anymore!

So as it stands it’s useless!

    Don’t buy it!

I finally got the acquired announcement to disappear. I had to install wordpress with plesk and it corrected the problem. You may wish to investigate if the people having problems are running plesk parallels panel.

Please also look at the other problems we are facing and no one is answering request for support. In particular the irritating pagination problem.

Looks like the new media library function in WP3.5 has to take over where NGG left off.

    i dont care.

this is stupid, all this back slapping and saying how great you are makes me sick.

all i wanted was something with some instructions on how to use it but you filled the pages when endless BS.

anything important is buried in self promoting baloney.

thankfully most things in life have more substance than this plugin which i deleted.

i dont need to waste more hours and could care less, who wants to care, do i care about the chinese company that makes a screwdriver i bought at home depot? no!

the context of this is way of base.
