[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Mini-thumbnails are broked in admin (and not only)

If I am using pictures from NextGallery as a main image of a publication – the small thumbnails do not show in admin listing of publications. This is a minor trouble of course, but it could be related with bigger problem.

I am using plugin Alkivia SidePosts to display latest posts in category on a sidebar. It works ok for main images that are stored in media library, but do not show those from NextGen gallery.

I understand it’s probably plugin incompatibility and I can try to tweak the plugin code myself. However I’d like an advice if possible – where to start from?

(I cannot change the plugin since it’s the only one that displays the correct excerpt – one the user added and not first lines of text. I tried a lot and found only one so far).
