[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Latest Upgrade has destroyed all other NGG widgets

    Just installed the latest version of NextGen gallery V1.7.0 and it has totally destroyed all the work on my previous gallery. It not only changed the look of the gallery settings, but also will no longer show the NGG Vote and NextGen Custom Fields.

    I am running a huge photo contest that requires voting for the image and the text fields and I am going crazy now trying to figure out what to do to correct this problem. The other plugins are active, but no longer show in the Gallery view. This is nuts to release something like this without warning that other plug-ins may not work with the latest version.

    Totally irresponsible and cruel to do this. Now I have to try to figure out which files were actually changed and go back to an older back up and hope I haven’t lost everything.

    As always backup before upgrade, don’t use modified files in the plugin as they are always deleted during the update.

    I did have a complete back up from a few weeks ago and replaced the entire directory. I had to add some recent updates I made, but thankfully I am back up and running. I was in a panic not sure which files were replaced and if I would lose the information in my DB.

    You can see the way I have this set up now by going back to my link above to see what I mean.

    Whew…this was a close call, as you can see we are now getting votes for the finalists in our huge Photo Contest and this could have been a major disaster. I am fairly new to WordPress, so was in a real panic. I would recommend a strong warning on your upgrades that explains what could happen so users can then decide what to do.

    Is they any real reason for me to upgrade at this point or in the near future if it will knock out all the other plug-ins I am using?

    Hi lenrapp,
    if this maybe helpful for you:
    i only had some small issues with 1.7.0 but changed successfully back to 1.6.2 like this:
    1. moved away the content of folder 1.7.0 plugin
    2. copied the backup files into plugins/nextgengallery
    3. activated (and DB updated “backwards”) to recent gallery version.
    4. everything seemed to be OK now.
