[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] HTML validation and duplicated content errors

  • Hi,

    I’m running version 1.3.2 of NGG and I’ve ran into 2 “minor” problems.

    The first, and probably the most important one, is the duplicated content problem generated when having galleries with 2 or more pages (paginated) displayed in your blog.

    Since the plugin prints a built-in navigation index (page 1 2 3 … [10]) it produces different gallery pages but the same post text for each page, so when visiting googles webmaster’s tools, you can check how many pages are tagged as “duplicated content” only because those posts/pages have multipage galleries:

    In this case, the post has ../page-4/ and ../page-9/ as trailing url because those are actually page 4 and 9 of that particular post’s gallery and off course tagged as duplicated by google.

    An easy fix could be just adding ‘rel=”nofollow”‘ to the page index links under plugins/nextgen-gallery/lib/core.php lines 163,176 and 188, but probably someone could come up with something more interesting for it.

    The second minor error I wanted to point out it’s about HTML validation. There is a small error in the galley page number wich prints the css ID=”ngg-next-{page-id}”, for example “ngg-next-2”.

    Since you can have more than one multipage gallery in the same post, the ngg-next-2 ID could be duplicated and therfore invalid since you can only use the same id once in CSS.

    id=”ngg-next-‘ . $args[‘nggpage’] . ‘”

    Well, thank you very much for such a great work with this plugin!
    Cheers.
    Pepe.-
